Breaking News: TAM releases data for 10 weeks; Hindi GECs witness close fight

While the entire data for 10 weeks is being analysed and will be available soon, we are presenting the last week's (Week 50) data for the Hindi GECs

TAM Media Research has released the data from Week 41 to Week 50 for all the genres except 'News Channels'. In the wake of the phase-wise DAS implementation across India, the release of TAM TV viewing data was deferred for All-India market for a period of nine weeks starting Week 41 (October 7, 2012, Sunday) and ending Week 49 (December 8, 2012). This deferred data was to be released on December 19, 2012 along with data for Week 50 (December 9-15, 2012) but due to reservations of News Channels, the data was released today.

According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for CS 4+, HSM markets, there seem to be a fierce battle for top positions among Hindi General Entertainment Channels. While the entire data for 10 weeks is being analysed and will be available later, we are presenting the last week's (Week 50) data for the Hindi GECs.

In Week 50 (December 9-15, 2012), Colors topped the Hindi GECs with 239 GRPs followed closely by Star Plus at No.2 with 231 GRPs. Sony Entertainment Television stood at No. 3 with 201 and Zee TV garnered 191 GRPs at No.4.

SAB TV was fifth most watched channel at No.5 with 140 GRPs followed closely by Life OK at No.6 with 130 GRPs. Star Utsav scored 38 GRPs at No. 7 while Sahara One remained at No.8 with 23 GRPs.

Top 10 programmes on Hindi GECs in Week 50:

Among Hindi movie channels, MAX was the No.1 Hindi movie channel in Week 50 with 144 GRPs. Zee Cinema and Star Gold were combinely at No.2 with 111 GRPs.

10-week TAM data: Star Plus leads GEC genre; Colors is No. 2

Star Plus led in 5 weeks while Colors was at the top in 3 weeks and Sony in 2 weeks. On Digital platform, Sony is No.2 and Colors is holding No.1 position from last 4 weeks

As TAM Media Research has released the data for 10 weeks together, it would be significant to take a look at the data for entire period. Looking at the data for GECs for 10 weeks, BestMediaInfo.com has positioned the channels according to their average GRPs for the entire period.

According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus leads the Hindi entertainment genre with an average GRPs of 250.4 starting Week 41 (October 7, 2012, Sunday) and ending Week 50 (December 15, 2012). In 10 weeks, Star Plus retained No.1 position for 5 weeks. During this period, the channel touched the highest GRPs at 285 in Week 45 while it recorded lowest GRPs of 230 in Week 46 and 47.

Colors retained No.2 position according to the average GRPs of 231.9 where it is holding the top position from last two weeks. It was also No.1 in Week 47 when it touched the peak ratings of 267 GRPs during this period. Colors touched the minimum GRPs of 210 in Week 46 when it was No. 3.

According to the average ratings of 10 weeks, Sony Entertainment Television was No.3 with 215 GRPs. The channel also topped the chart twice in Week 46 with 249 GRPs and in Week 43 with 255 GRPs. It had recorded its lowest ratings of 200 GRPs in Week 42.

Zee TV stood at No.4 with average ratings of 192.7 GRPs. The channel recorded its highest GRPs in Week 49 at 218 GRPs and lowest GRPs in Week 46 at 182 GRPs.

SAB TV fared at No.5 according to the average ratings of 10 weeks. The channel managed to garner an average of 142.6 GRPs with 152 GRPs as highest in Week 45 and 132 GRPs as lowest in Week 43.

During TAM blackout for 10 weeks, Life OK remained at No.6 with an average GRPs of 130.7. The channel also held No.5 position in Week 43 and 44.

Sahara One fared at last with 24.3 average GRPs. The channel could not manage to touch 30 GRPs in the entire period of 10 weeks.

However, the Digital platform presents a different picture where Star Plus remains No.1 channel with an average of 234.2 GRPs but Sony has held No.2 position with 226.8 GRPs closely followed by Colors with 222.1 GRPs.

Post the digitisation in 3 metros, Colors has emerged as No.1 channel in last four weeks on digital platform.

Zee TV was at No.4 for the entire 10 weeks on digital platform with an average of 167.4 GRPs. At No.5, SAB recorded an average of 132.9 GRPs while Life OK was at No.6 with 111.3 GRPs. Sahara One had recorded 21.1 GRPs on digital platforms.

How did the Hindi GECs fare during the phase where the TRPs were not released? Here we give you an analysis of the weeks gone by…

As per the average of 10 weeks, Star Plus maintains its Numero Uno position with 250 GRP while Colors takes the second spot with 232 GRP. Sony Entertainment Television is third with 215 GRP while Zee TV takes the fourth spot with 193 GRP.

Shows that launched during this phase saw an up and down ride. Except for Qubool Hai on Zee TV, none of the new launches has managed to better its launch ratings. Here is a brief:

People's Choice Awards aired on Colors on 25 November delivered a TVR of 2.8. The much-talked about leap episode of Star Plus' long running show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai which aired on 3 December garnered a huge rating of 5.4 TVR. The Dabangg integration in Star Plus' popular show Diya Aur Baati Hum, aired on 12 and 13 December delivered 5.1 and 5.3 TVR respectively. Zee Rishtey Awards aired on 2 December got 4.2 TVR. Kaun Banega Crorepati, Sony's big ticket show garnered a consistent average of 3.3 TVR. The one hour special episodes of Sony's Kya Hua Tera Vada and Bade Achche Laggte Hain aired on 4 December and 5 December delivered 2.9 and 3.2 TVR respectively.
While these are the ratings for the weeks gone by, as per Week 50 (last week), Colors holds the #1 spot with a GRP of 239. Star Plus takes the second spot in Week 50 with 231 GRP, while Sony is third with 201 GRP.

Coming to the Top 10 shows (as per Week 50), Balika Vadhu on Colors stands tall taking the #1 position with 5.8 TVR. Diya Aur Baati Hum, the Star Plus show takes the Number 2 position with 4.8 TVR. Saath Nibhaana Saathiya and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Star Plus' long running shows share the #3 position with 4.3 TVR. Colors' Sasural Simar Ka is at #4 with 4.1 TVR while Colors' Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon finally makes its mark by climbing the TRP ladder taking the #5 position with 4.0 TVR.

Pavitra Rishta, Balika Vadhu, Uttaran & Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai are 4 years old shows and these all show doing great in terms of TRPs .

Pavitra Rishta highest trps was 7.2 and now its almost half 3.4 trps
Balika Vadhu highest trps was 10.5 and now its almost half 5 trps

GEC Watch: Star Plus leads weekday programming; Sony rules weekend

In Week 51, Star Plus has four shows in top 10 weekday programmes followed by Colors and Zee with three shows each

With the resumption of TAM data, we bring you the top performing weekdays and weekend programming on the basis of their average TVR. Week 51 (December 16 –22) of TAM 2012 saw Star Plus' show Saathiya replacing Colors' Balika Vadhu at the top. The channel also has four of its shows in the top 10 list. Colors and Zee TV have three shows each while SAB and Life OK have one show each in the top 10 list.

Weekday shows

Star Plus' fiction show Saathiya replaced Balika Vadhu to claim the top position among weekday shows in Week 51 of TAM 2012. The show fetched an average TVR of 5.1 (last week 4.3).

Colors' flagship show Balika Vadhu has slipped to No. 2 with an average TVR of 4.8 (last week 5.8).

At No. 3, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus got more eyeballs this week and recorded an average rating of 4.6 TVR (last week 4.3).

Zee TV's two shows Sapne Suhane Ladakpan ke and Rab Se Sona Ishq shared the No. 4 position with an average TVR of 4.5. Last week, 'Sapne Suhane Ladakpan ke' had recorded 3.5 TVR and 'Rab Se Sona Ishq' had 2.2 TVR.

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus stood at No. 5 and fetched an average TVR of 4.4 in Week 51 (last week 4.5).

At No. 6 was Colors' Sasural Simar Ka with an average TVR of 4.2 this week (last week 4.1).

SAB's top running comedy show Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma claimed the No. 7 rank fetching an average rating of 4.0 TVR this week (last week 3.7).

Colors' third show in the top 10 was Madhubala at No. 8. The show garnered an average TVR of 3.9 (last week 4.0).

The 9th position was shared by Star Plus' Pyaar Ka Dard Hai and Zee TV's Pavitra Rishta. Both the shows fetched an average rating of 3.8 TVR in Week 51 against last week's 3.4 TVR for both.

Life OK's Mahadev kept its berth in the top 10 list fetching 3.4 TVR this week (last week 3.4).

Weekend toppers

Weekend programming is completely ruled by Sony with four shows in top positions. Its two shows KBC and CID remained the weekend toppers with an average rating of 3.4 TVR (last week 3.3 for both the shows).

Sony's Comedy Circus ke Ajoobe was the second most watched show of the weekend with 3.1 TVR (last week 2.5).

Sony's other crime show, Crime Patrol, fetched 3.0 TVR this week (last week 2.8).

Fear Files on Zee TV has averaged at 2.3 TVR this week (last week 1.9).

Zee TV's flagship singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has recorded an average TVR of 1.1 in Week 51 (last week 0.8).

Star Plus' crime fiction Arjun has fetched average ratings of 1.1 TVR (last week 1.1).

Colors' Shaitan: A Criminal Mind and Sur Kshetra have averaged at 1.1 TVR in Week 51.

Zee TV climbs to No. 2; Star Plus in the top spot

Zee adds 35 GRPs on the back of the joint episode of Rab Se Sohna Ishq and Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke.

For the second consecutive week after the nine-week deferment, TAM has released the viewership figures for the week ended December 22, on December 27.

As per the data provided by one of the TAM subscribers, Zee TV is the biggest gainer of the week. It grabbed the second position amongst the top GECs on the back of the joint episode of Rab Se Sohna Ishq and Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke. The channel has leapfrogged ahead of Colors and Sony to grab the spot with an increase of 35 GRPs over last week (191 GRPs in Week 50); it garnered 226 GRPs in Week 51.

However, Star Plus reclaimed the top spot with 231 GRPs, although there is no increase in its GRPs.

Colors dropped a spot to the No. 3 position with a decrease of 16 points at 223 GRPs, while Sony dropped to No. 4 with 193 GRPs (201 GRPs in the previous week).

Life OK jumped up a spot to overtake SAB TV at the 5th spot, with an increased 144 GRPs (up from 129 points), while SAB TV fell to the sixth spot despite a 3-point increase in its GRPs to 143.

Bringing up the end of the list is Sahara One, which gained one point over last week. It stands at 24 GRPs (23 GRPs in the previous week).

Star Plus also grabs the limelight in the Top 10 list of programmes on Hindi GECs, with three entries. Sony and Colors have two entries each in the list, while Zee TV and SAB TV have one entry each.

Saathiya Sath Nibhana (Star Plus) leads the list of the 10 most-watched programmes, clocking a TVR of 5.1.

At the second and third positions are Colors' Balika Vadhu and Star's Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, which have acquired 4.8 TVRs and 4.6 TVRs, respectively.

Next in the list are Star's Diya Aur Baati Hum (4.4 TVRs); Colors' Sasural Simar Ka (4.2 TVRs) and the joint episode of Rab Se Sohna Ishq and Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke, which share the spot with the same TVRs.

Sony's KBC (4.1 TVRs) and Colors' Madhubala (3.9 TVRs) occupy the next two spots.

Zee's Pavitra Rishta and Sony's CID follow next with 3.8 TVRs and 3.4 TVRs, respectively, while SAB TV's Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma brings up the 10th spot with 3 TVRs.
