Before assuming that I am a racist or a person who has such limited knowledge about the world in general that I ACTUALLY THINK THAT PEOPLE IN THE CARRIBEANS ARE ALL BLACK AND RUN AROUND IN TRIBAL SKIRTS ..............PLease pay attention to some facts

I said paint the fACES black not the whole body .............to show their childishness so people wud laugh . To show NAIVETE

The Tribal skirts were added so that people wud imagine these oldies in them and laugh .

Coconut water was added for purely a beach touch .

I know Jamaica has mixed population . I know eVERYTHING about that wonderful country and its wonderful people .

I am an Indian ............brown skin is my heirloom . And Im very proud of it .

I live in the US and have many African Americans as my best friends .............besides a natural rapport , my brownness is one thing i share with them and they r family to me

The commentary is written as humor so people having a stressful day shud laugh . That statement was in pure fun , not at all the way u construed it .

Saying that Jamaicans r tribals is as ridiculous as saying all Indians eat on Leaves even today .

People reading the commentary know me by now , so they dont even think in such a direction .

Urmila........Ashwin's wife wore noodle straps blouses while all the women in the show wore long sleeves . Why ? Coz The serial makers wanted to show that America is a forward country , apna desh is full of shy , demure women . So I sarcastically put in a statement OMG SHE WAS FROM PAAPI DESH AMREEKA ..........and someone misunderstood and thought I am criticising Americans .No . I was criticising The NARROW THINKING PROJECTED IN INDIAN SERIALS . The ignorance , on a subtle level is THERE , I infact attack it .

So I implore u all to understand properly without jumping to conclusions . Even this JAMAICA thing .......I picked the country on a humorous lark ! People liked it and I wrote more and more .

Its one thing to defend your beliefs but quite another to assume others r racist on the basis of a humor comment that has no value whatsoever .

I appreciate the fact u like my commentary btw .

But your defensive and somewhat agressive response proves the very point I was trying to make --> ie. despite the fact that I never accused you of doing such things (being racist, unaware of the world etc...) --> you jumped to these assumptions based on what I wrote! In the very same way Kool - Caribbean folk reading your description (however well meaning) will be offended - again because of the automatic assumptions those words conjured.

Enough said.

BTW - generally speaking - I think your commentary is excellent, very witty and usually has me in stitches. Congratualtions on a job well done.

I could have said There is no need to be so sensitive to u , but I didn't . When someone brings up skin color and words like offensive , sorry , it needs explanations . You don't first throw INDIRECT Accusations and then say that there is no need to get defensive .when the person explains .

Indirect messages can be read in any damned thing . It all depends on the READER . What my description AUTOMATICALLY CONJURES UP is two AGed Indian men .....one grey haired one bald , with painted faces and tribal skirts basking in the sand , hiding from FAMILY and induces laughter as this is soooo unlike them . And it did .

Today My son , his fiance & I went looking for a nice saree for her to gift her on their engagement...Out of 30+ shops we checked out only 1 had some good selection...Rest were ridiculously ugly and overly priced...Can't wait to go back home and do all the shopping for her and everyone...Got a nice Kurta outfit for my son in nice light blue color....😃
