Yup..Lonavala is just an extended suberb now, commercialized and crowded, especially on week ends. But escapades to a second hide away from Mumbai are unavoidable when weekends afford you hardly one or two days and friends' insistence irresistible. But Then Western Ghats are awesome in monsoon..mists and countless falls resurrected, clouds visibly stalled by the mountains, some speechless vantage points like Tiger Hill ( a nice new refreshment there ) or Upper-deck hills . And a long drive in the rains through rejuvenated pristine Konkan country side along the Express-way, nestling the mighty mountains…rushing Kamshet river…I would love driving all the way to Panchgini as roads are improved a lot…In that sense, even Mahableshwar is beaconing at least one or two visit in monsoon when the whole town is closed…windows sealed and ugly crowds absent…making you feel like a royal tenant and taking to the heart's content the real force of Megh…busy rivaling Cherapunji as it pours 350 +inches (@ 30 feet!! ) sending Krishna, Koyna and Savitri in full spate.
