Hey, I just read your fanfic and it's really good. The plot is so interesting and the characters of Archana and Manav are really well-defined. Please update soon. I would really like to see what happens next.

Sorry everyone ... late as usual. But I was caught up in some extra work and just couldn't find time to update. I hope this one will make up for the lost time. The good news is, that the next update is almost ready too. So I shall update again in a day or two.

I have a dream

Oh Lord,

Who but you would understand my plight?

How my heart shrank before such might

You have been a witness that ghastly night

What happened to me when reason took flight….

The pencil moved over the lines as Arch wrote what was in her heart. She looked up out of the window to see a clear dark sky and the moon shining roundly down at her. She put her pencil down and silently asked the moon why fate had been so unkind to her. Hadn't the Lady in white witnessed that ghastly accident? Couldn't she have somehow stopped it? Arch looked at the moon with sadness as tears started to ooze out from the sides of her eyes. It was only at night that she allowed herself to weep in the confines of her room. She never wanted her parents to become anxious over her tears and didn't want them to suffer more because of her. She mostly gave in to whatever they suggested. But as the days rolled by, she was getting more and more tired of these journeys to hospitals and the regime they put her through. And now this Manav with his ultra clever attitude had arrived on the scene to aggravate the situation even more. His constant pushing was as jarring as was his quick assessment of her thoughts. That was what she disliked most of all. The more she tried to get away from him, the more he came after her. Why couldn't he be more like his brother? She gritted her teeth in anger, her tears forgotten for a while. What had he called her? A spoilt queen ? And everyone else a bunch of suckers? What a hateful man ...!!!!!

Sleep entered her eyelids and the pencil from her fingers slipped out. The poem was left incomplete. She began to dream ...

She was standing on the long balcony of a beautiful mansion by the seaside. The trees covered the gardens running below and the beautiful blossoms emanated a sweet fragrance. She looked beyond at the sea. What a pretty blue sea it was! A ship could be seen in the distance and she wondered who the visitors were. She turned and quickly went down the steps, past the hall and onto the patio. She ran along the garden path which led her to the beach. Her blue dress complimented her fair skin and the light brown hair blew softly in the sea breeze. The ship had drawn closer and she was quite surprised. The flag bore a skull. Her heart skipped a beat. Who were these people? Pirates? Good God! She should hurry back and warn her father of the marauders. She slid back into the trees. She didn't return to the house but waited curiously in the foliage.

The seafarers disembarked by jumping into the shallow water. They were about fifteen of them. They looked unkempt and ugly. Brandishing swords, they seemed to enjoy the firm ground under their feet. One more made his way to the group. He was lean, tall and wore a red scarf across his head. She tried to get a better look. She stepped out a little bit. Her skirt billowed out due to the breeze. She hastily caught them and retreated once again. But they had seen her. Screaming loudly, three or four of them came straight for her. They dragged her out. She resisted. They began to laugh at her and she was getting more frightened by the minute. One touched her face and she shrank back.

"Let go of her!" A voice ordered.

"Oh but Captain ..."

"That wench is mine."

They loosened their grip on her and she was off in a flash. She raced towards the mansion. Her light feet carrying her as fast they could. There was a rustling behind her and the distinct sounds of footfall. Someone was following her. She increased her speed but her fright was making her tired. She dreaded the feel of those hands on her. Before she could go any further, she was knocked down as someone went for her feet. She was horrified. She fell face down. Her arms were twisted behind her back and roped together. Two strong arms lifted her and turned her around. Her eyes were full of shock but they were flashing with resentment.

"My my! What do we have here?"

It was that Captain of the ship. She kicked at him.

"Get away from me!"

He pulled her close to him and looked down at her minutely. She was beautiful he thought. She pushed at him. He pulled her even closer. Any struggle she made meant pressing herself to him. She looked at him for the first time from so close. His eyes were jet black. The stubble was looking just fine. The groves on his cheeks deepened as he smiled roguishly.

"Ah! What a prize I have got!"

He bent his head till his nose touched hers. She turned her face away. So he brought his hand up to trail his finger from her hairline, down the side of her face to her ear ... encircling it before it descended down her cheek along her jaw to her chin. It trailed down her neck and then dangerously but downwards even more, when she heaved away from him and stopped dead. She was pressed so close to him, she could feel his body against hers. She gasped. He cupped her chin while his calloused fingers caressed her cheek. She felt a strange sensation going through her. His hand on her back slowly moved up to catch the back of her neck.

"You could be the downfall of any man. But not me. I will have you for me not before long."

"Ha! Never."

"We'll see. Your heart is beating so fast against mine. I wonder why! Is it telling me some secrets of its own?"

"Let go!"

"Ok"

She was suddenly free and funnily she felt totally bereft. He began to walk away.

"Wait!" she said. "Untie me."

"Oh no, you may kill me and I am so frightened." He said dramatically.

"Manav!"

"What? Whom did you call?" He came forward looking puzzled. He loosened the rope. He took out a plume from his pocket. It was the plume of some brown bird. He slipped it behind her ear. Bowing to her as if she was royalty, he turned and began to leave. She took her wrists in her hands and rubbed the ache away.

Her fists tightened and her head jerked in sudden movement. The moon shone down and smiled down at the frail sleeping girl. Dawn was about to break and she had to slip away.

With the first tweeting of the birds, Arch woke up. She stretched and suddenly remembered what she had dreamt. She was crimson with embarrassment. Had she dreamt of Manav? She had certainly thought the pirate to be him because she had called out to him. Dear God ! What was wrong with her? It was just a dream and they didn't mean a thing she told herself. She got off the bed and slowly hobbled to the window. She opened it wide. A breeze blew and she lifted her face to it. Her eyes closed to enjoy the coolness. She suddenly felt something fluttering down her cheek. She pulled back in fright. She looked down at her elbow and saw a tiny brown feather on her arm. She was taken aback. What was this all about? She slowly stroked the feather and then touched it to her cheek. The moon was almost invisible now with the sunrays breaking through. She chuckled as she disappeared.
