Just as the bound of a favourite journal,
anointed by the dew of a laden pair,
loyally guarding the maiden's struggle;
The knight was riding the western air.
Unbeknownst to the ordained twain,
bringing the succor and trialing strains.
Waiting to be caught in your gripping web, skeptical.👏Just as the bound of a favourite journal,

Sucheta tai came to meet Arch. She loved to chat with Arch and Arch was just as eager to talk to her. The tears were long over and Arch knew that dancing was now a distant dream and in all probability her legs would never take her that far. But Sucheta would not hear of such dismal theories and said that where there was life there was hope. One day her shishya would dance again. She would smile encouragingly and Arch would nod and smile too.
Arch was guilty at times when she felt she had let her guru mai down. Someone had managed to take Arch's place in the dance drama. The drama had been a reasonable success and Sucheta had come to know that no one could really take Archana's place.
"Let me see you do the mudras," said Sucheta tai.
"What?"
"You can sit and do them, you know!"
"My fingers are weak and painful, there is no grace left them."
"Let me be the judge of that."
So Arch brought her hands together and bowed her head in front of her guru mai.
"No Arch, stretch your hands out and do it in the dance style."
Arch stretched out her hands, thumbs pointing inwards, circled her arms slowly to do the traditional namaskar before the start of any dance. Her hands shook and her movements were slow, but she covered and practised every mudra slowly. Suddenly her hands dropped as a spasm of pain flashed like lightning across her shoulders and down her back. She shuddered and gasped aloud. She held on to the armrests of her wheelchair. When would this pain stop? She was resigned to the lifelessness of her limbs but she was finding enduring the pain increasingly difficult to bear. Sucheta came forward and rubbed Arch's paining back. Something was not working. Dr Raikar had said that the dance mudras were excellent physio exercises. But then why was Arch not improving? It was almost six months now.
"Baba," said his daughter, "take me to the seaside for a while away from these hospitals. I need to get away."
"Yes dear, we'll go. I'll make the arrangements right away. Try to sleep now."
Arch slipped her hand into his as the sobs escaped her lips.
"Hi," said Manav over the phone. "I need a flight booking to Mumbai, India on this coming weekend. Please tell me the seat is available."
"Just a moment, sir, let me check it out."
"Right."
A minute later, Manav was reserved on a seat to Mumbai. "Thanks. Have it sent over tomorrow please."
He next phoned his mother and told her he would reach Mumbai in seven days.
"You are almost a month late." She chided. Sachin snatched the phone.
"Dada, don't forget that wheelchair?.. the press button one."
"You seem more eager about the chair than seeing me."
"I am very happy. You will get to see Arch too."
Archana again. What was going on in his brother's head? Why had he got himself so close to this girl? He steered the conversation away from this topic and told his mother what food she had to make when he arrived.
"I'll be there for just 15 days."
"Manav!!" screeched his mother. "You said you'd be here longer this time."
Arch sat on the terrace of the bungalow. They had come away from the city. The journey by car was a little uncomfortable but the scene was so beautiful that she forgot her discomfort. Presently she put her head back and slouched into a cosy position. Her eyes began to close and she fell into a sleep.
Arch opened her startled eyes. Her heartbeats were faster than normal. She could feel him as if he was real. Why did these dreams plague her? Her cheeks became pink as she remembered how she had clung to him. Slowly her eyes became sad. No man was ever going to enter her life. She was never going to allow that. She looked down at the book on her lap. Tumbleweeds ??.. her most favourite possession. She sighed.
Manav Deshmukh's aircraft touched the runway of the airport at Mumbai. It was great to be home, he thought.
