“I knew this day had to come. I didn’t know how I was going to deal with it but I just knew it was coming. I felt the world upside down when I heard those words. My parents were no more! How could I have felt normal? It was difficult but Neil made it easy. I felt my pain going as I wept in his embrace.”
Almost midnight and they were awakened by the phone call on Mini’s phone by Dr. Neelam. Neil understood what it meant, her parents were no more. He left a deep sigh when she picked up. And he was of course right. She cut the call but she didn’t react. He kept his hand on hers bringing her back to reality. Her eyes were teary as she looked at him. She hugged him tightly, shedding her tears. Hearing the cries Neil’s parents woke up and soon realized everything. They went to the room. The door was slightly open so they could see Mini crying in his arms. After a few minutes she stopped crying. Just then she got another call from her grandmother. She knew how they were going to react but right now, she couldn’t talk to anyone. She remembered the moments she spent with them in their last days. His parents entered the room and consoled her. How the night brought them close, no one knew.
The next day, Mini and Neil left for Delhi. The dead bodies of her Parents were lying on the floor of their house. Many of her relatives, whom she had not seen for years, were also there. Everyone gave their condolences to the family. She stood there with Neil and her grandparents. After everyone left they sat together talking about her parents. She was silent.
“Oh what happened to my Bhai and Bhabhi!” she jumped at that voice, but she didn’t have the courage to see that man. She held Neil’s hand tightly.
