If you all haven't already, then you NEED to go watch Surkhi Bindi. Starring Gurnam Bhullar and Sargun Mehta, it's a very sweet, yet compelling story about how everyone, regardless of their gender, should be given the chance and encouragement to fulfill their dreams.
As a young child, Randeep Kaur (nicknamed Rano), has dreamed of being taken away by a groom who has come from "the land of fairies" a.k.a. Canada. However, her dreams are seemingly shattered when she gets wedded off to Sukhwinder who is from another village. Since her dream of going to Canada and talent as beautician were gone unappreciated by her family members, she had never spoken of her past job experience or heart's desire with her husband. Through talks, he learns about Canada and decides to help her fulfill her dream by suggesting she put her skills as a beautician to good use and open up her own parlor.
It's quite similar to Patiala Babes in the sense that like Babita, Rano too uses her skills to open up her own business; her dreams are given wings by her husband (in Babita's case, it's Minnie); keeps a lot of anger suppressed; worries too much about "log kya kahenge" which need to be dismissed by Sukhwinder; and most importantly, the men never try to show off how much they're doing so much for their ladies. HS & Sukhwinder are simply there, standing side by side and doing what little they can to bring smiles onto their lady love's faces.
If you're able to, then please go out and support this gem of a movie. I assure you, you'll enjoy it a lot!
