But Baibta's confusion and not really grasping the concept of self-respect is somewhat justified too.
Here is a woman who had always sacrificed herself and compromised on her self-respect for 17 long years. 17 years later, she finds herself alone, with her daughter and realizes that she now needs to support her young adult daughter. The daughter who teaches her what self-respect is. So this woman learns about self-respect from her own teenage daughter (whose concept of self-respect is not clearly defined too since she is technically still learning about life).
Babita has learnt self-respect but as of now, she needs to learn a lot more than self-respect. There are emotions and feelings and rights that Babita still needs to learn. Letting go of her alimony and child support was a right she let go of only because of this so-called self-respect (in Minie's words today). That was her right and had she taken it her self-respect would not have been harmed! But she learnt it the hard way.
Likewise, today, she wrongly mixed self-respect with emotions. And she's also mixing two entirely different emotions. But she'll learn this too. Parts of it through Minie and maybe parts of it through other means (I don't know how). But she needs to learn this too.
A teenage daughter can only teach her this much. Babita needs to learn things on her own too. Make her own mistakes and learn from them. And this is one mistake where she'll learn about feelings and emotions.
