So guess I must start 😆

There has always quintessential belief in society that we respect person of principles. We at times aspire to be such who carries strong principles in life. At times words such as compromise, letting it go, being flexible to accommodate may be seen as sign of weakness. But then life is best teacher who often teaches us it's not always possible to live with your head high. As Chanakya said, straight trees are cut first and honest ppl are screwed most. Those who don't know when to bend may suffer chance of losing altogether. But that may only apply to trees, A mountain faces such heavy winds all the times. Sure it endures scratches yet survives.
So is it about how strong one is and how capable is to stick to one's principles?

But other point is can one really live entire life based on set rules? Change is most basic principles of life. With time, things change, adaptation is neccesary for survival. Also one who narrow mindly follows one set of rules without allowing any flexibility is not believer, rather radical. So if not change but at least willingness to change is required. That opens a slippery slope, change for what and to what extent? Doesn't that may require some rules or formation?

Most ideal would be balance of both, but easier said than done 🤔

Agree Jay there should be a balance always One should follow certain ethics/principles but at the same time should be flexible too...There is no point in sticking to a principle or being stubborn abt it when its detrimental to your professional/personal life or to people surrounding you...I think there are certain disadvantages if one is too stubborn abt his/her principles - some of them could be creating unneeded confrontation, prevent from accomplishing our goals and others, reducing our overall effectiveness, etc,...

I feel principles/core beliefs are important but one must understand those beliefs and principles and then use that clarity to help guide decision making.

Ok here you go...

I agree with you that there has to be a balance... I feel people should be upright, straight-forward and honest but when u encounter different kind of peeps, you need to tailor your actions (to some extent) to deal with such people

Idealism never helped anyone... Practicality is what is important.

Wah Wah Jay.. Did u already prepare or thought and wrote all this in such quick time?
At this rate, guess ur book should be ready in week's time. 😃

Anycase going back to your TOD and ur comments. Agree with it.. As chanakya rightly said and history has proved time and again, honest , sincere truthful people get screwed most. Infact for majority , there is no place in this current cruel world for such minority group and fast disappearing class of people. With every generation , we are losing more and more of them which has being widely described as advent of Kali Yug.

Question is whether sticking to one's principles is sign of weakness. Infact it is one's strengths and inspite of all odds and things stacked against him/her, the person is able to not waver from one's principles. Qusetion is whether that helps the person to get anything done in life. Most probably not. This is where flexibility, adapatability comes in.. As long as one does not waver too much from one's principles but is bit open to change and that change does not harm him/her as well as people they are dealing with, it is still a welcome positive thing. This ties into what u said about change for what and how much..

I was planning to prepare for it but my search took longer than anticipated so wrote this ASAP.
I would agree greatly with the last paragraph. One must evaluate reasoning behind sticking to principles? Is it just to be stubborn and prove the world you can stick it or has more value to it? If one's principles start hurting those dear to us, how good are they? But then is one being selfish by thinking abt those dear and avoiding to face much bigger issue that may arise?

Bingo!
What do these principles serve us, is it just to gain respect or promote specific image or it has true value that is beneficial for not just us but other in general too 😊
