LESSON - 4:

GENDER -
Telugu has 3 Genders :
1) Masculine - Purusha Limagam
2) Feminine - Stri Limgam
3) Neuter - Napumsaka Limgam.

In Telugu the suffix "-du" is almost always indicative of Masculine gender.

Example:- Younger Brother = Tammudu
Leader = Nayakudu

However there are more Masculine nouns that do not end in "-du"..
Example:- Elder Brother = Anna
Uncle = Mama

Some Masculine nouns ending in "-du" can be converted to feminine nouns by deleting the "-du" suffix and adding a suffix "i". Here is the chart:

In Telugu the suffix "-mu" or "-am" or "u" is almost always indicative of the Neuter Gender.
Example :-
Sky = Aakasamu
Water = Neeru
Photo = Chitram
Tool = Parikaramu

The only lesson i can understand in the whole language thread😳 😳. Thanks to Sanskrit words.
Gayathri your way of teaching is unique 👏 👏.

Does it sound the same as you write or its different?

If you could include some basic conversation sentences i guess that would be easy for people like me who knows nothing about any south Indian language and in that way we can surprise our south Indian friends😉 😛

LESSON - 5:-
PRONOUNS
Learning Telugu pronouns is very important. Because its structure is used in every day conversation. The more you master it the more you get closer to mastering the Telugu.

Role of Pronouns:- Telugu Pronouns include -
Personal Pronouns (refer to the persons speaking, the persons spoken to, to the persons or things spoken about )
Indefinite Pronouns
Relative Pronouns (Connect parts of Sentences)
Reciprocal or Reflexive Pronouns (In which the object of a verb is beind acted on by verb's subject)

Ex:-
I = Nenu
Me = Nannu / Nenu
You = Nuvvu (singular, formal) / Meeru (plural, with respect)
He = Athanu
She = Aame
We = Menu
They = Vaaru
Him = Athanini
Her = Aamenu
Us = Mammalni / Mariki (changes based on the situation)
Ex:- He taught us Telugu - Ahanu maaku telugu Nerpicharu.
He saw us in park - Athanu mammalni park lopala chusaru.
Them = varini (human beings), vatini (others)
My = Naa
Your = Mee
His = Athanidi
Her = Aamedi
Our = Maa
Ours = Maadi
Their = Vaari
Theirs = Vaaridi
Mine = Naadi

The Below short sentences will help to your Telugu Vocabulary.

I Speak = Nenu Matladuthanu
You Speak = Meeru Matladutharu
He speaks = Athanu Matladutadu (singular, informal)
Athanu matladutaru (plural, respect)

In the above short lines observe the difference at the end of Verb "Speak"??
Well listen, When the sentence refers to self (speaker) Verb will end with "nu" . When the sentence refers to others , verb will end with"du" , "ru" & "vu".

Few more Examples : "nu"
I read = Nenu Chaduvutanu
I walk = Nenu Nadustanu
I eat = Nenu Thintanu
I smile = Nenu Navvuthanu
I Love = Nenu Premisthanu

I Learn = Nenu Nerchukuntanu

Examples to : "du" / "ru" / "vu"

You Walk slowly = Meeru Nidanamga nadustharu /
Nuvvu nidanamga nadusta
vu
You eat fastly = Meeru tondaraga tintaru
He walks slowly = Athanu Nidanamga nadusthadu

Few more useful short sentences:

Give me = Naaku ivvu (informal) / Naaku Ivvandi (plural, with respect)
Give us = Maaku Ivvandi
( here subject-speaker is plural so we have to use "Ivvandi")
Give him = Athaniki Ivvu / Ivvandi
Give her = Aameku Ivvu / Ivvandi

Personal pronouns, indefinite pronouns, relative pronouns, reciprocal or reflexive pronouns have a very important role in Telugu, therefore they need very special attention.

Namaste Gayathri

Danyavadamulu Manchi spandana kosam 😳... Did i say that right??
2] I learnt Telugu =Nenu Telugu Nenrchukunnaru
Chinna thappu "Nerchukunnanu" - Small Mistake "Learnt = Nerchukunnanu"
I had originally gone by ur lesson on Pg4 which says :
Learnt = Female - Nerchukundi (informal) / Nerchukunnaru (with respect)
Male - Nerchukunnadu (informal) / Nenrchukunnaru (with respect)

But today's lesson clarified.. Since we have "I" , hence it has to end in "nu" instead of "ru"...

e.g He learnt Telugu would have been : Nenu Telugu Nenrchukunnaru
She learnt Telugu would have been : Nenu telugu Nerchukunnaru.
Right??

3] I Love Apple = Nenu aapil prema...
Thanks for the explaination... Even i was confused whether it is appropriate in Telugu...
How do i say following in Telugu??

Right [ same as telugu version of correct ?? ]
Explaination
Perfect
Practise
Now
Remember
Selavu
PS : Today's lessons were perfect... Helped to understand the differences betn ru and nu usage...
It is matter of remembering and practise now...

Chinna Thappu - Small Mistake

Overall sentence is fine, but Please check the meanings of He and She once again. That is the only mistkake you have done.

When first person- "I" - "nu"
when the speaker is second person - "ru"
So try to form the above sentences again. adding one more
"I learnt Telugu"

3] I Love Apple = Nenu aapil prema...
Thanks for the explaination... Even i was confused whether it is appropriate in Telugu...

So you can say.. here ---> Naaku Apple ishtam
How do i say following in Telugu??

Right [ same as telugu version of correct ?? ] -----> Sari ayina
Explaination -----> Vivarana
Perfect -----> Lopam leni
Practise ---> Saadhana
Now ...> Ipudu
Remember ...> Gurthu unchuko
Selavu
