If its specifically about Polycythemia Vera-

Its a neoplasm(Myelo proliferative disorder) arising from Multipotent Myeloid stem cells characterized by increased marrow production of erythroid,granulocytes n megakaryocytic elements(precursors of RBC,WBC,Platelets respectively).This leads to Erythrocytosis(polycythemia),granulocytosis n thrombocytoss in peripheral blood.

In short-

Its a Myelo proliferative disorder associated with autonomous red cell over production by bone marrow.Increase in red cells,neutrophils n platelets.Enlarged spleen. This disorder may burn out as Myelofibrosis n less commonly into Acute myeloid leukaemia.

What are the symptoms and enlarged spleen - what harm does it do?
