IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO APOLOGISE
Raavi’s semester 1 exams were around the corner. She was worried that how she is going to manage household chores along with preparation for the exams. Dhara was also in the last trimester of her pregnancy and needs some extra care. Raavi used to study at night after completing all the work. Shiva has also gotten used to sleeping with lights on. The first exam was of Economics which Raavi did not really like.
“Oh God! I have to practice numericals on Elasticity; it is important.” She calmed herself down and again started talking to herself. “It is okay, Raavi. You can do it.” She motivated herself and started practicing. Math has always been her achilles’ heel; even simple calculation used to confuse her. She started doing questions and got stuck on one of the questions.
Meanwhile, Raavi’s struggle was heard by Shiva as he was trying to sleep right next to her.
“Do not ignore the negative sign.” Shiva said surprising Raavi.
“What? How do you know? I mean have you studied this topic?” She asked.
“Yes…No…I mean yes, when Dev was studying, I used to help him with Mathematics and Economics. Then Krish also, so this topic is kind of stuck with me. I have been good at Math.” Shiva said with a shy smile.
Raavi was proud of him and at that very moment, she realised that she is married to not just a good guy but an intelligent one at that. Shiva was a specimen of a guy who was completely opposite to her check list for a guy but yet, he seems perfect for her.
After that, Shiva helped her with the numerical and theory portion which she found tricky. Around 2 am., both of them started feeling sleepy.
“We can do the rest of the chapters tomorrow. I am exhausted. Have to wake up early, have to make breakfast and then…” before Raavi could complete her sentence, Shiva interrupted her.
“You carry on with your preparation. I will manage the food and other household chores.” Shiva said comforting Raavi.
“But how?”
“I can search online and if there is problem, I can take your help. But I don’t want you to compromise your studies. You are good at it, you got first division in your undergrad, now if you get good score you can get a job like Rishita bhabhi.” Raavi noticed a twinkle in Shiva’s eyes while talking about academics.
She was overwhelmed with emotions and just nodded her head. The moment she put her head on the pillow, sleep took over her.
The next morning, she woke up pretty late and the moment she stepped out of the room, she heard Suman’s voice.
“Why did you make breakfast?” Suman asked Shiva who was holding plate in one hand and kettle in the other.
“Because Raavi has exams and she studies till late in the night, so I will be helping her.” Shiva said curtly. He was still angry with his mother for never apologising to Raavi for disrespecting her.
Suman was about to say something when she spotted Raavi.
“Oh! The heroine has woken up…Mr. please serve something to your dearest wife…” Suman was taunting Raavi but Shiva stopped her in between.
“Mom please, she is already dealing with a lot of things. Stop making it worse. If you can’t be polite with her, then don’t talk.” Suman felt insulted and left the room.
Raavi on the other hand, felt proud that her hero did this for her. She put a hand on Shiva’s shoulder and was about to say something when Shiva hugged her.
“I am sorry for what you went through. I am sorry for what you are going through. I cannot change what mom thinks or says but I will compensate for everything for my whole life. I will try to correct all the wrongs starting from our wedding day, the first day when everything went haywire.” Shiva was teary eyed.
Raavi, on the other hand, felt a warmth in the hug. “First, give me my breakfast. I am super hungry.”
She smiled and was about to leave the kitchen when she turned back to say something to Shiva.
“Don’t you dare remember our wedding day like that. That was the first day when everything started making sense, every wrong became right. That was the beginning of us.” She said and left a Shiva who was beaming with smile and happy tears.
