I think KD looks a bit caricature-like when he tries to ham-cry. Ref-His Suman crying scene post-Kangan kaand. He nails these tuny nuances and subtle changes of expressions very well.

Ah, I do think you bring up a very good point! I love to see my heroes cry but very few can do it effortlessly (KSG and a handful others). Most actors cannot pull off crying scenes.

In that case, I would prefer the contemplation as well! Maybe a single tear falling down his cheek. But def deep thought and reflection.
