Realization
After the emotional exchange between him and his mother, Shiva was positively exhausted. He was happy that he finally got to return these Kangans to their rightful owner. And now it was time to finally set things right with his in laws. Going against his Babhi’s teachings and being rude to Maami always left a bitter taste in his mouth, but the old hag never left a chance to taunt him to no end. Finally standing up from his kneeling position, he fished into the pocket of his trousers to get out the gift he got for Maami. Brand new Kangans. While getting them out he looked around for his Maami ki Behen ki Beti, just to see the surprised reaction she was sure to make at what he bought for his Mother-in-law. In turn he was the one that got surprised. She was nowhere in sight.
“Raavi ? Raavi kaha hai ?”
Hearing his question, everyone looked around. And again Raavi was nowhere near them. Slowly a sense of dread started to enter his heart. Shiva searched the entire terrace and still there was no sight of her. Everyone was surprised at his reaction. Why was he panicking to this extent when just yesterday he was the one refusing to bring her back ?
Realizing that Raavi was missing, and nobody was doing anything, Shiva yelled at everyone asking them to search for her with him. With his shout, the panic finally settled in and everybody scattered to look for Raavi in every corner of the Haveli. Shiva was panicking. He went to their bedroom first and searched high and low for her. He stopped and tried to think with a clear mind of where she could’ve had gone. He remembers the tempest he saw in her eyes once they both had gotten off of the ledge at the terrace. She was a person who had suicidal tendencies. Instead of calming himself, these thoughts made him more desperate to find her. His family will ransack the Haveli to find her, meanwhile he thought to search outside. He ran as fast as he could to check the waterfront.
“Raavi !! Raavi ?!!”
He yelled as loud as he could but still there was no answer. He was nearby Maami’s residence when he heard a loud cry. He ran as fast as he could thinking of the worst case scenario. The image of Raavi hanging from the ceiling fan, the image of her labored breathing while trapped underneath him, those images kept on replying in his minds eye. An ugly realization started to dawn on him. He knew she was important to him, he just didn’t realize it was to such an extent. He was afraid of losing her. No he can’t lose her, he refused to even think about it. Bursting through the door, what he saw made his fear doubled. Maami was on the ground clutching her purse and Anita was trying to console her.
He ran to where he knew her room was and searched for her. Again, nothing. He went into the bathroom and again saw it bare of anything. No Raavi in sight. He went out and confronted the two weeping ladies. Maami was in no state to give any explanations so Shiva focused on Anita. Finally he received his answer and it almost took the ground from beneath his feet.
She was gone.
She took all of her belongings and some money from Maami’s purse and left. Anita explained how in the midst of searching, they received a phone call from her Fuaji. He told them that Raavi called him while sobbing her heart out, telling him she was in a cab heading to God knows where. Raavi told him everything that had happened here and threatened to cut off all communications when he tried to convince her to go back. Fua was so mad that he yelled at her Fui and gave an ultimatum to her. If she refuses to change her ways, he will cut off all of her extra spendings for however long it takes. Shiva didn’t really care about what was to happen to Maami, all he cares about are details regarding his wife.
Knowing both of them won’t be of any help, he ran back out towards the Haveli. He found his family members while taking the bike keys, and told them what happened. Without waiting for their answers and questions, he ran back out to search for Raavi. There’s a chance he’ll catch up to her. He had the idea to call her and yell at her for leaving him like this, but he knew she won’t be picking up his calls any time soon. He knew this was all his fault. He should’ve looked for another way to get those Kangan. He shouldn’t have dragged her in between. Didn’t he learnt his lesson already ? Didn’t he notice this past few days, how hurt she actually was when he really treated her like Maami’s behen ki beti ?
Still his anger had clouded his judgement and overpowered his senses. Maami’s cruel words had been ringing in his head since the bet has been laid, and he couldn’t help but react impulsively whenever she reminded him of it. He knew it was wrong but still he went ahead to threatened his “Mother in law” that way. That too in front of his wife.
His Wife.
He was so screwed.
He started the bike but again blanked out. Which direction did she go ? How was he going to find her ? He was wasting time and she was going farther and farther away from him. Suddenly remembering Anita’s words, he plucked up his courage to call his Maama.
Silence greeted him once the call connected. He launched straight into a tirade of how he knew this was his fault. But he needed to find Raavi now. It was an unknown place for her and he feared of something bad happening to her being all alone. He said he’d rather have her being furious at him by his side than not knowing where or what condition she was in. He went for the clincher as he told his Maama, that he didn’t want what happened at their wedding day to repeat itself if they left Raavi alone for too long.
He heard a grave sigh from the other side of the call and finally his Maama gave in. He said that Raavi had no fixed place she was headed to yet as she just wanted to get away from everyone and everything. She sounded so defeated that he thought to let her have her time to regroup. He didn’t think about Raavi again trying to repeat her suicide attempts. But Raavi did say that she was headed on her way back home, she just wanted to stop somewhere first to take a few days for herself.
Hearing that information, Shiva thanked his Maama profusely and promised to bring Raavi back safe and sound. It was more for himself rather than for his Maama. He needed to find his wife. He needed to find Raavi and grovel at her feet if he had too. With a route in mind, Shiva sped off to look for his runaway wife. It was time for him to being his wife home.
