I wrote this one cause I'm in a you really made a whole building fall on them and I got big fat nothingđđĄ. Not ointment scenes, although you people apply adbhut vicks , or an emotional one . You didn't even show us Shiva's nightmare- which could've been a great way to move the story forward .
Going to spend rest of tonight reading shivi fics and feel better. So if you have recs/write fanfic ,please drop the links in commentsđ
Also thanks for all the đ. đĽş
OK. tw:// if drinking /alcohol or reference to pandya boys being not pavithra putar is not your thing, please dont read.
Technicolour afaat:
In the moments between trying to breathe through the pain of a 40 tonne God knows what leaning down on his back , and trying to keep chipkali alive ,shiva realises a few strange things .
He's not usually one to be the brooding , dark hero given to thinking about death and other inevitable things , that's a waste of time. Especially when there's so much to be done and faced and fought with , in the present. But , after a peg or two he tends to get philosophical.
All the terrace top sneaky whiskey sessions with Dev and their discussions on lights at the end of life's tunnel, heaven and hell, haven't prepared him for this .
Holding the combined weight of his body and whatever the hell has fallen on his back's off Raavi was beginning to leave him light headed , woozy. He'd shut his eyes for just a minute, just one minute before he got back to keeping them alive. He'd barely shut his eyes when memories flashed by, in a dizzying whirl.
He'd been 5, and somebody had dropped off a girl in a poofy pink skirt and giant pink bows , ordering him and Dev to play with her. Dev had complied , but there was no way he was going to play with some GIRRL , ew . So he'd yanked the ribbons out of her hair . Only, far from running away the tiny thing in pink BIT his hand. Chudayil, she was the chudayil from the stories Dhara Bhabhi sometimes told them .
He'd been 9ish, and she wanted to play ghar ghar with their toys. He'd snatched her barbie , bored and annoyed that he was stuck with her instead of out playing cricket with his friends. The doll had snapped . He half expected her to yell for her mausi, complain, land him in trouble - it's what mami ki behen ki Beti did best . He braced for the ear splitting yell , only to find her looking up at him a gleam in her eye. In a flash she'd grabbed his Spider-Man doll, forcing the doll's dress over his costume, before walking out ; action figure hero dress and all in hand .
He'd had a crush on Sonia ,of course the brat found out . She'd made it her mission to taunt him and threaten to tell Sonia . He'd been 14 and mortified that she knew , not even Dev did . Eventually he'd become good friends with Sonia and was hoping for more when she ruined it. Announcing to the class at large that he bathed only once a week. That had been the end of anything with Sonia ; he'd never wanted to punch Raavi so bad. But like she pointed out between giggles , if Sonia didn't even know that much about him, was she even a friend ? It was the year he took up boxing.
Revenge, sweet and cold had showed up when they'd been 16 ,in 11th standard tuitions together. He'd found her rough note accidentally , and what a find it had been . Pages filled with FLAMES , and nauseating hearts with Mrs Raavi Suhail in loopy cursive . Suhail, of course the idiot captain of the basketball team. Of course Shiva showed him the book and told him about Raavi's little crush . He hadn't expected the douche to announce to the class that he preferred his women minus braces and with actual curves instead of stick figures . It was the first time he'd seen her face crumple before she'd bolted out of class. He'd broken Suhail's nose later.
12th had been a blur of boards captaining both the boxing and the cricket teams. Sonia had oddly become his girlfriend of sorts and he hardly had time for Chipkalis. Until the night of the farewell , when Sonia had decided they didn't have a connection. He'd been furious . Who the hell was he supposed to take for social then ? She'd showed up unannounced , yanking him out of the room, insisting they attend the function, show Suhail and Sonia up. They got on surprisingly well.
It'd been the most fun he had in a long time , family and stress forgotten .She'd looked OK, pretty even in the bright blue saree she had. He'd had to remind himself this was chipkali, the intruder in his life . By the end of the night Raavi looked just as confused.
They'd stayed away from each other for most of the year after that , until he spotted her one late summer evening outside the ice cream shoppie, a local thug towering over her .
He hadn't noticed when , but others clearly had.
She'd outgrown the braces and had filled out a little, her hair had grown out, the waves smoothening , fast turning from the awkward duckling he'd always known into a stunningly pretty face. "Maan ja na, itni kya bhav Ka ri hai ? " The goon had his hands on her wrist. He'd meant to step in rescue her , it's what he'd do for anyone. Until she spun, landed a kick in his crotch and even as he bent, her hands had formed a loose fist , landing a clumsy punch . A reluctant grin of admiration crossed his face , he'd hissed "thumbs always outside, princess" as he walked past .
He'd opted to help out at the store, they'd needed an extra hand there , and chose to sign up for online courses that interested him. He was tired of the confines of traditional education anyway. She'd gone to the best college in Somnath , of course she had . They'd still been part of the same friend circle , and it became their new game; taunts about being unpad Gawars and remarks about being a mug pot , know it all who couldn't cut in the real world. Dev had had to intervene multiple times , dragging one away from the other .
He'd finally turned 21 , how she snuck into his birthday birthday party he'd never know. Just as fast she'd threatened to tattle , tell Dhara Bhabhi that the Sprite bottles weren't as harmless as they looked . He'd backed her into a wall then, promising all kinds of dire punishments if she so much as tried . The rest of it was a blur , but she'd smelled of something fresh , citrusy and had looked up, cool, unfazed , a sharp grin on her face. In the end all it had taken was Dev making cow eyes and pouting at her ( he should have known then , that the sneaky ass had become more to her).
It hadn't seemed odd really that Dev and chipkali hung out , not initially . They went to the same college, he was a senior and family. Until he found the same starry eyed smile on her face , the last time he'd seen the dazed grin had been over the looser Suhail. Shiva had tried telling Raavi , that had only led to blow up, drag down fights , and accusations of being a dateless loser. He'd warned Dev , tried to tell him to keep his distance , before Raavi's feelings pushed things further. Neither of them had paid him any attention. The fact that he went on a string of dates all month long had nothing to do with them.
And then there had been the stupid ,definitely bad idea Vikram's 23rd party they'd gone for. They'd both got drunk off their heads , why else would they not only have willingly participated in a game of spin the bottle and then promptly kissed in front of all their friends .
It hadn't been much, no tongue but more than a peck. But it had seared her taste into his mind , mint from the mojito she'd been guzzling, and the taste of cherry gum she'd been chewing all party long .
The sizzle had been unexpected and the urge to kiss her longer had been a hard jolt.
By silent mutual agreement they both decided to pretend it never happened , and that any chemistry had been because of the alcohol .
He'd gone back to his dates , and chipkali to mooning over Dev.
He'd always dreamed, in a secret corner of his heart , that when he married, it would be for love, or at least a fondness. Instead he'd been stuck with this. This thorn in his side , who'd been a part of his memories and life for as long as he could remember. Raavi had always , always been a technicolour nuisance .
A vicious wave of pain stirred him out of the hazy memories , he bit back a curse . Wearily he watched her drift in and out of consciousness. He was damned if he was going to let her escape so easily.
