Something interesting about Shiva - he is affected by her tears only when it's someone else causing them. Remember the mehndi episode? Raavi's eyes welled up when he ruined her mehndi and he didn't seem too upset about that. (Although I do feel that was just Shiva lashing out at her because of his own intense emotions more than wanting to hurt her.) This is a different take on the cliche trope of the ML not being able to stand the FL's tears the second she's upset. Here, Shiva doesn't get protective when it's him hurting her and I find that immensely interesting.
This actually does happen in real life too albeit with different intentions and contexts. You sometimes make loved ones cry, perhaps with harsh words and normally we don't comfort them immediately because we're still not over our own emotional high, but we do feel bad about it.
In the mehndi episode, though, it didn't look like Shiva felt remorseful. In fact, his face during that saga reminded me of a problem child upsetting a peer, and I wondered if that's also possibly alluding to the "boy pulls your hair because he likes you" psychology? I don't know.
What might be his mindset regarding her tearing up then?
Well, well! I think you have a point here. Unlike the typical MCP’s on TV, Shiva doesn't HURT RAAVI to the end of none-return. He does so because, according to him, she does bump into him often. The reaction she evokes in Shiva is very layered.
When he ruined her Henna, he is unapologetic and angry. But, the very next moment when Dev ignores her when she is dancing, he pushes him to dance. There are tiny things he does for her. He coaxed her to die but goes running madly behind her to save her. He hurls her away most of the time but always pulls her back from getting even the tiniest bit of hurt.
Her tears make him mad. That is evident in the Mithai Kaand during their post-wedding. When she sobbed, he went angry on a rampage.
When Dev refused to marriage, his first reaction was laughter, and then he went on a rampage, reprimanding him again and again for causing this mess.
He has a strong connection with her. What? How? Why? It is yet to be discovered. I don't want the cliche route of ‘falling in love because we are married trope. I want them to realise that what they shared was rare.
