Agreed, I guess they just release them while they are still filming later episodes. It looks like they will complete the shooting of this before releasing it. To be honest, I actually prefer them doing it this way, rather than kind of improvising the end. Also it seems longer because I’m used to Wahaj filming shows simultaneously so there’s always something of his being aired. I think this is longest we’ve gone without a show of his.
When shows go on air also depends on available timeslots and production queues.
The last drama to go on air on GEO was Jaan Nisar in May. But JN's principal photography started in August 2023, months before SMD started production. This means JN was in the production queue before SMD.
Before JN, Beyhadd was the last drama to go on air in April. Beyhadd also started shooting months before SMD. You can find news articles mentioning this drama a few months before SMD went to floors (it had a different title then).
Before Beyhadd, the last GEO drama to go on air was Shiddat in early Feb. Shiddat also started shooting before SMD too. The Muneeb Butt iv, where he talked about Christian Grey's inspiration for a drama he was shooting, was aired before the SMD shoot even started. So, it was in the production queue before SMD as well.
So, realistically, do tell me when SMD would have gone on air before? The most feasible option was when Shiddat ends in July. May was also a possible option, but Deewangi is a huge IP, so I can see why JN was prioritized (and also, JN started production before SMD).
People should stop listening to random crew members and side actors. When that Akhyar guy first said the last spell was in March, I was so skeptical because Haseeb is a slow director who takes many breaks. It seemed improbable even then that Haseeb would wrap up shooting in less than four months when he himself was in Dubai so much, and Wahaj had been idling in Lahore for weeks.
This trend of airing 2 episodes a week on ARY and GEO means that at a given time, no more than 3 shows can be on air on these channels. Hum only airs shows once a week so it has the option to have 5 shows on air a week. 2 episodes a week also means that more compressed airing schedule so GEO & ARY cannot leave half the drama left to be filmed while show is on air. On Hum, episodes run over many more months so you will see many of their dramas go on air after 3-4 months of shooting and the remaining 3-4 months of shooting is done while drama is on air.
