Chapter 9: An unlikely ally (Eng)

Khaani entered the party behind Anjum, her eyes scanning the room for Ayeza. It turns out luck was on Khaani's side. Just the night after her nightout with Hadi, Anjum was invited to a party being organised by Shiza, Anjum's classfellow and Ayeza's cousin. The impromptu party was being held at Shiza's apartment for Ayeza. The ocassion itself was something Khaani was sure Ayeza wouldn't be happy about: a party celebrating Ayeza's newly single status. While Khaani personally felt that surviving a relationship with a man like Mir Hadi was surely something to celebrate, she just couldn't imagine his ex-partner announcing her newly-single status with a party.

Pretty soon, she came face to face with her host. "Finally", Shiza exclaimed hugging Anjum,"You're so late...and that's Khaani right, your cousin?". "Hi", Khaani said pleasantly, extending her hand. "Meet my cousin, Ayeza", Shiza said looking at the beautiful girl standing moodily next to her. "Hello, Ayeza", Khaani greeted her, extending her hand. The girl didn't take her hand. Rather, she stared at her weirdly. "I am sorry", Ayeza replied,"But why do I feel like I have seen you somewhere...I can't remember where...? Are you an actress?". Before Khaani could give an answer, Shiza said,"She is Sarim Khan's sister Ayeza- the man who'll be defeating Mir Hadi in the elections!". Ayeza's confused expression changed into one of alarm. "I hope that's not going to be problem", Khaani said quickly, trying to salvage the situation,"It's a social event after all. And I heard about your breakup...Shiza told Anji you wouldn't mind..." Ayeza shook her head and said graciously,"Of course I don't mind. I'm sorry I was just taken aback. You're welcome to stay Sanam.". Khaani smiled.

______________________________________

After drinking and dancing, it was time for games. "Ok girls!", Shiza announced,"The game is one by one we'll list our ex's annoying habits whoever finds something common will have a shot.". One by one the girls got up from their place and listed the annoying habits of their ex. The list ranged from smelly socks to habitual cheater. Finally, it was Khaani's turn.

In her entire life, Khaani had been in two serious relationships; at eighteen years old with a fellow Pakistani classmate. She had called things off when he(without even asking her) sent a marriage proposal to her home. Her second relationship was with Adam, a British photographer, when she was twenty. They dated for about six months until he got a job with Vogue France and had to move to Paris and both agreed that long distance relationship was something they did not believe in. They were still very good friends though. Before coming to Pakistan, she went on dates a number of times but it was very casual. Nothing to complain about. She knew she had to say something. Her eyes fell on Ayeza, like everyone else, was waiting for her to start; an idea came to her. Finally Khaani spoke up,"My ex-boyfriend was a typical bad boy. Drinking, partying and womanising. He'd change girlfriends the same rate people changed their clothes (chuckling) I knew this... I don't know why...I thought with me he would be different. I thought he really loved me and we had something special. We were together for some time but then all of a sudden

he stopped taking my calls. I was banned from his building. His friends- who were once my friends ghosted me. And then I got to know that his parents has arranged his marriage elsewhere and he was actually two-timing his fiance with me. I never felt so used in my entire-". There was the sound of a glass breaking. It was Ayeza. She flung her glass on the floor and stormed inside her room. "What happened?", Khaani wondered aloud, feigning a shocked expression. Shiza replied,"Please don't mind...your story reminded her of Hadi. He was a complete @$$ to her! Just like your ex. You know he didn't even have the guts to break-up with her in person. His friend called Ayeza and told her not to harrass him. Can you believe it?". Khaani scowled and said,"How disgusting...Shiza, if you don't mind can I talk to Ayeza? I feel so guilty. You organised this party to cheer her up and I ruined your efforts. I can very well understand what she is going through.". Shiza nodded and led her to her bedroom.

As Khaani entered the bedroom, she saw Ayeza looking at her phone and weeping. Khaani shifted uncomfortably: she wished she didn't have to do this but she had no option. "I am sorry", Khaani said,"I didn't realise my story would upset you so much.". She meant it. She didn't expect her fake break-up story to have such an impact on her. "I always knew Hadi was a womaniser", Ayeza said,"But I thought that I can change him. My love would change him.". Khaani sighed and said,"We can't change people Ayeza no matter how much we try.". "Do you know the things I did for him?", Ayeza said indignantly,"Whenever he called me no matter late it was, where it was I would go to meet him. He used to make me wait for hours, I never complained! My friends didn't like him so I ditched them!". "That's where you went wrong. ", Khaani replied annoyed,"Once you let men like Hadi walk all over you, they take you for granted. Whose heart is broken now? Yours! It was your self-respect that suffered. Right now he must be enjoying some party with his next girlfriend.". Ayeza replied wiping her tears,"You're not far from the truth you know. I heard last night he was at his friend's club with some girl in burqa.

Must be some Lollywood bimbo!Stupid b***h!".

Khaani bit her lips trying to restrain herself.

She finally said,"Why are you blaming that poor girl. She's just a placeholder like you. The real culprit is Hadi! First he played with your feelings and the cast you aside like trash!". Ayeza glowered at her words. "I know my words are hurtful but at least they're true: Hadi took advantage of your feelings. You loved him with all your heart. He used you and then dumped you just like his other girlfriends. Ayeza, I am sorry but you are just another conquest for him. What did you think you were any different?(scoffing) I am sure he doesn't even remember your name now."

"That's not true...you don't know what he is like", Ayeza made an attempt to defend herself but Khaani didn't give her a chance. "You know what?!", She said agitatedly,"You desi chicks are all the same: No matter how the guy treats you, you'll defend him till the ends of earth. He'll not appreciate your loyalty Ayeza, he'll see it as a weakness.". Ayeza responded,"What should I do?"

Khaani replied,"Get even. Let the whole world know what a moron he is.". Ayeza appeared shocked at Khaani's words. Finally, she said,"Look, I know Hadi is your brother's rival but please don't bring your politics into my personal life..". Khaani tried another tactic,"Your dignity is admirable Ayeza, too bad Hadi doesn't deserve it. He didn't even have the decency to break-up with you in person.". Defiantly, Ayeza said,"We didn't break-up ok? We're just going through a rough phase. That's it. I am sure he'll call me in a few days.". Khaani shook her head; she was beginning to lose sympathy for this girl. She took the word delusional to another level. "Sure, he'll call you after he marries his burqa-clad girlfriend.". Ayeza retorted,"You are wrong, Hadi is not into all this.". Khaani rolled her eyes and replied,"Oh please, of course he'll get married but only to a girl who can benefit his political career - that's why he never seriously commits to a girl.". Ayeza pondered on Khaani's words. She was coming around, Khaani could sense it. She finally spoke,"What did you do with your ex?". Khaani cleared her throat and said,"I exposed him on social media and then his other ex girlfriends followed suit. His engagement broke and he had to shift to Australia to avoid the scandal.". Ayeza nodded, wiping her tears. After a minute, she said,"I really loved Hadi. I had imagined that one day he'll realise how much I love him and he'll love me back. But he used me...I want him to pay for what he did to me.". Although, Khaani maintained a solemn expression, she was ecstatic from within. She just needed to play her cards right and Mir Hadi will be a dead man. "Then there's no time like the present. Expose him now. It'll make him lose the elections - his very first election! He'll be humiliated.By the way how do you plan to expose him?"

Ayeza replied,"Through social media.". Khaani shook her head,"That won't suffice. Your target audience are Balochistani voters...not many people in that region use social media. You can't go to the new channels what if they alert Hadi beforehand.". "Then what should I do?". Ayeza asked confused. Khaani pretended to think for a moment before saying,"I have an idea! I know a reporter. We can trust him. You will interview with him, that way I can ensure your identity is protected and then my campaign manager can circulate it. Simple!". After thinking for a few minutes, Ayeza replied,"Fine.". "Great", Khaani said decisively,"I'll make the arrangements tomorrow."

The next day

Mir Hadi checked his phone: today was the last day of his ultimatum to Khaani and till now she hasn't delivered. He dialled her number. Khaani picked up and without any preamble said,"Sarim has called for a press conference tonight, where he'll make the announcement.". Hadi smirked and said,"Wow! There must be some connection. It's like you can read my mind.". Khaani countered,"It's not connection. It's the relief I'll be getting to be finally rid of you.". Hadi shrugged," Don't be so smug. What if I need you again and the footage-". Khaani cut him off,"You'll be returning that footage to me tonight Mir Hadi and after that you'll not mention that night again...do you get that? If you mention that night again and consider this political rivalry to be a personal one. And believe me you don't want me as an enemy.". Hadi smiled in spite of himself: it was this fierce side of Khaani he enjoyed so much."So when and where are meeting?". Khaani answered,"Around 6 pm Ali's club.". Without waiting for an answer, Khaani cut the call. She turned around to find Sarim standing at the door. Did he hear something? She thought panicking. "When did you come?", Khaani asked alarmed. Entering her room, he said,"Who were you talking to?". "Anjum", Khaani lied. Sarim said,"I hope you have no plans for tonight, my press conference is at 8 pm. We'll be releasing the election manifesto I need you beside me.". Khaani nodded and replied,"I know I'll be back by 8.". "Please be on time", Sarim pleaded,"I am going to announce my Girls Free Education Plan tonight. I'll need all your support.". "Of course, I'll be there for you", Khaani replied,"You are taking such a great initiative. By the way, what did the dragon think of your idea?". Sarim shrugged,"I don't know", he said," She just heard my presentation and approved."

"I guess she liked it, she didn't want to praise you otherwise it would ruin her form", Khani replied conspiratorially, as Sarim chuckled at her joke.

Khaani checked her watch, it was 4:35 pm. Ayeza was 35 minutes late. They had planned to meet at the reporter's house where she was supposed to be interviewed. For the fifth time, Khaani dialled her number. There was no response. "I am so sorry Adeel", Khaani apologised to the reporter - a contact of Ahmed's,"But I don't think she's going to show up.". Saying this, she left. While driving, she dialled Anjum's number. "Anji!"Did Kinza call you??", Khaani asked angrily,"What is Ayeza playing at?! It's ok if she doesn't want to interview but at least she should have the decency to- What the!(Khaani hit the brakes and started honking loudly)". Anjum asked,"What happened, K?". "A car suddenly came in front of me, blocking my way. Seriously, doesn't anyone have any civic sense anymore?! Let me go talk to them". Khaani stepped out of her car, closing the door with a thud. She reached the car. It's windows were covered and closed. She knocked on the window. On getting no response she knocked again. This time the car's door opened. It was Mithal, Mir Hadi's trusted aide. The look on his face was enough for Khaani to understand the reason behind Ayeza's no-show: Mir Hadi knew everything. Before she could say anything, someone threw a piece of cloth over her face and pushed her inside the car.

Chapter: 10.1: Caught!

"Tum log jaante nahi ho tum kitni badi galti kar rahe ho!", Khaani threatened for what seemed like the hundredth time, but like before there was no response. Her hands were tied from behind and her face was covered in a long mask, ensuring she could not see where she was being taken. The car screeched to a halt. Khaani was dragged out of it. She strained her ears for any familiar sound but it was all eerily quiet. It was when she felt concrete under her feet she realised that she was being taken inside a building. Suddenly, the men holding her on either side stopped and she heard the ding of a lift. Khaani felt her throat go dry and her stomach drop. What the hell were they going to do with her? She thought nervously. "Tum log mujhe kaha le jaa rahe ho?!", she demanded her voice shaking with panic. But once again there was no response.

Once out of the lift they continued to drag her with an iron grip hold on her and then they stopped again. She heard the bell ring. The door opened and once again her captors dragged her inside. "Uss ladki ko le aaya Chhote Mir", the man on her left said. "Bohot khoob", Khaani heard Hadi say, a chill running down her spine.

Precap(26.1): Blind with rage, Hadi stormed in front of Khaani and pointed his gun at her forehead, "Ab tum nahi bachogi, Khaani.", he threatened, removing the safety catch from his gun.

Chapter 11: Mir Hadi's dark side(Eng)

Earlier that day

Standing in the family stable of his estate, Mir Hadi affectionately patted his horse, smiling to himself. He had just got off the phone with Khaani, Sarim was going to announce his withdrawal from Sibi tonight: the election was his to win. Just then, his phone buzzed: it was a message from Ali. You need to see this, the message read. Accompanying the message was a screenshot of Ali's Instagram feed. It was a selfie of his ex-girlfriend Ayeza with her cousin. By the looks of it, they were in the middle of a party. Hadi rolled his eyes, Ayeza was a closed chapter; he had no interest in her life, why the hell was Ali- just then Hadi's eye caught something. Standing a few feet away from Ayeza was none other than Khaani! Hadi zoomed in just to be sure. Yes, indeed it was Khaani, standing few feet away from the duo, immersed in her phone completely unaware of the camera. Yeh Ayeza ke saath kya kar rahi hai? Hadi thought his mind racing; trying to come up with a probable (and harmless) explanation of why Khaani - the woman he has been blackmailing - would be in the same room as the girlfriend he just broke up with. Yeh koi coincidence nahi ho sakta, tumne zaroor kuch kiya hai, he thought looking at Khaani's picture. Putting on his shades, Hadi headed towards his mansion. He needed to see Khaani and he needed to see her now. Dua karo Khaani ke mera Shaq galat ho, he thought clenching his fist, Warna main tum aur tumhare uss Bhai ka woh hashr karunga ke uske baad tum Mir Hadi ka naam lene se bhi darogi. Hadi entered the hall and froze at the sight in front of him. Sitting in the drawing room was Ayeza with his mother, chatting as they sipped tea. Mithal was standing a little further away from them, his face grim. He had clearly instructed the guards not to allow Ayeza inside the estate but when Ayeza entered the estate, sitting in Sitara's car, Mithal knew there was nothing to be done.

"Hadi! Waha kyu khare ho?!", Sitara called her son,"Yaha aakar baitho." Stone-faced Hadi quietly came and sat in the sofa next to his mother, his eyes fixed on Ayeza, who was determinedly staring at her cup. From the early days of their dating Hadi had made it clear: Ayeza should never approach either of his parents, unless Hadi himself presented her to them. Break this rule and consider yourself out: Hadi had warned her, just like he had warned her predecessors. And now, she had the guts to not just disobey him but to sit in his house and sip tea with his mother as if she was the future Mrs. Mir Hadi! Whatever little doubt Hadi had, it was resolved: Khaani was planning something with Ayeza. She would've never had the guts to pull this off on her own. A few moments later, Sitara excused herself and went upstairs. Hadi didn't say anything but simply stirred his tea. Ayeza shifted uncomfortably before saying,"Look, I know tum mujse milna nahi chahte, lekin mere paas aur koi option nahi tha. I needed to see you.", Ayeza pleaded. "Meri mumma tumhe kaha mili?", Hadi asked softly. "Club mein.", Ayeza replied,"Magar maine unhe humare baare mein kuch nahi bataya...I just told her ke tum mere dost ho aur bohot time se miley nahi, toh unhone mujhe yaha chai pe invite kar liya. I have to say Hadi, your mum is so kind and sweet-". Hadi cut her off,"Tum Sanam Khan ko jaanti ho?". Ayeza looked shocked and little terrified,"Tumhe kaise pata?", she asked nervously. Hadi showed her the screenshot. He watched her expression change from confusion to anger. "Yeh Kinza bhi na",she replied annoyed,"Apni stupid party ko bhi issne social media mein daal diya. Kinza ne party organise Kiya tha aur uss ne hi bulaya tha Khaani aur uske cousin ko. Mujhe to usne apne aap ko introduce Kiya tab pata chala ke woh kaun hai...aur main iss hi liye to aaj aayi hu tumhare paas...Khaani ne mujhe aaj interview par bulaya hai. Humare rishte ke baare mein baat karne ke liye...main iss liye toh seedha tumhare paas aayi hu! Woh tumhare against bohot badi planning kar rahi hai.".

By the time Ayeza had finished talking, Hadi was literally shaking with anger. The nerve of that girl! So this had been her plan all along. There was no change in nominations! She played him like a finely-tuned instrument. He won't spare her now. "Khaani ne tumhe kaha bulaya hai interview ke liye?", Hadi asked, his cool tone belying his volcanic rage. "Uss reporter ke ghar-(Ayeza's phone buzzing) yeh dekho abhi bhi woh call kar rahi hai. She must be waiting for me.". Hadi looked towards Mithal,"Mithal usse mere flat le aao. Abhi". "Ji Chhote Mir", Mithal replied.

______________________________________

Sitting in the drawing room of his flat, Hadi quietly sipped at his whiskey. Sitting next to him was Ayeza going on about how much she loved him and how she could never imagine betraying him. Hadi didn't respond to her words; he couldn't care less. He just needed Khaani to be brought to him. Just then, the doorbell rang. A servant opened it and in came the formidable Sanam Khan, struggling as her hands were tied behind her back and a mask covering her face, looking every bit helpless as he wanted her to be."Uss ladki ko le aaya Chhote Mir", the man on her left said. "Bohot khoob", he replied smirking.

_____________________________________

"Welcome Ms. Sanam Khan! Aap hi ka intezar tha!", Hadi announced in a false cheery tone. He got up from his seat and walk towards Khaani whose face was still covered in the mask. Hadi smirked, she looked powerless and defenceless. Good, he thought to himself, Yeh to bas shuruwat hai. "Mir Hadi, tum yeh achcha nahi kar rahe ho!", she snapped. Hadi scoffed and replied,"Achcha, main achcha nahi kar raha hu? Dhokha tum mujhe do, vaada-khilaafi tum karo, mujhe double-cross tum karo aur main achcha nahi kar raha hu? Mere Baba na sahi kehte, tum Khans mein zahanat naam ki cheez hi nahi hai.".

"At least hum tum Mirs jaise kayar nahi hai jin mein itni bhi himmat nahi ke woh apne dushman pe saamne se vaar kare! ", Khaani snapped back indignantly. Hadi pulled the mask off her face. For few seconds Khaani blinked; her eyes trying to adjust to the light. Her expression soon turned into one of anger, when Hadi stepped in front of her, his face inches away from hers. His stony expression broke into a grin,"I am impressed itni badi problem mein padhne ke baad bhi tumhari akad salamat hai. Iss akad ko apne pairo taley kuchalne mein mujhe bohot mazaa ayega.". "Galat fehmi hai tumhari", Khaani countered,"Agar tumhe lagta hai ki tum jaise ghatiya aadmi ke aage Sanam Khan jhukegi...(addressing Ayeza) Aur tum! Maine na iss duniya mein bohot tarah ki ladkiya dekhi hai magar tumse zyada self-destructive ladki aaj tak nahi dekhi. Tum mein self-respect naam ki cheez hi nahi hai!". Ayeza scowled at her and replied,"Oh please tum ab apne failed plan ki bharaas mujhe pe nahi nikalo. Thik jaise tum apne bhai ke future ke baare mein soch rahi thi, mujhe bhi apne honewale shauhar ke future ki padi thi. To main kaise self-destructive huyi?". "Honewala shauhar?!", Khaani scoffed,"Are you serious?". Khaani moved past Hadi, who himself looked amused at Ayeza's words, and stood in front of Ayeza,"Tumhe sach mein lagta hai ke yeh aadmi jo har hafte girlfriend badalta hai, jo tumhe dominate karta hai, jo apne dost se bolke tumhe break-up karwata hai- woh tumse shaadi karega?!". "Kamaal hai", Hadi interjected,"Itne Kam time mein tum isse humare bare mein kitna kuch bata diya Ayeza, lagta hai kaafi achchi dost ban gayi hai Khaani tumhari."

"Trust me, Hadi", Ayeza pleaded,"Iss ne mujhe manipulate kiya tha, maine isse Jaan bujhkar kuch nahi kaha. I always knew ke that we had something special-". Khaani cut her off,"Allah main kin chakkaro mein phas gayi hu", Khaani said frustratedly, looking upwards. She turned towards Hadi and said,"Dekho, ab jab sari baat khulkar saamne aa hi gayi hai to tum yeh bhi samajh lo: Sarim apni nomination withdraw nahi karega chahe jo ho jaaye. Mujhe iss tarah laa ke, mere haath bandhke rakhne se tumhe kuch haasil nahi hone waala. Iss liye tumhare liye yahi behtar hai ke tum woh footage delete kardo aur mujhe yaha se jaane do. I promise main kisise nahi kahungi ke tumne mujhe kidnap kiya hai. Got it?". "Wait", Ayeza interjected, "Yeh kis footage ki baat kar rahi hai, Hadi?". Neither Hadi nor Khaani responded. "Tumhe lagta hai ke tum abhi mujhe dhamki dene ki position mein ho?", Hadi said threateningly,"Footage abhi bhi mere paas hai. Bas mere leak karne ki deri hai aur Sarim apne aap election haar jayega."

"Agar iss baat par itna confidence hota to tum woh footage kabka leak kar chuke hotey", Khaani said, walking towards him,"Mujhe aise blackmail nahi karte.".

"Kyu na iss baat ka faisla hum Sarim par chhorte hai?", Hadi said untying her hands and handing her his phone,"Yeh lo, apne Bhai ko call karo aur usse kaho yaha aane ke liye. Main ab ussi se deal karunga", Hadi said resolutely. "Main aisa kuch nahi karungi!", Khaani said stubbornly. Hadi scoffed and said,"Of course, main toh bhul gaya tha tum itni aasani se thodi manogi.". Hadi took out his gun and pointed it at her,"Sarim ko phone karo aur usse yaha bulao agar tumne aisa nahi kiya toh baad mein Sarim ko morgue jaana parega tumhari body identify karne ke liye, samjhi? Iss liye jaldi se phone karo usse! Lo!". Khaani gingerly took the phone from him and dialled a number. Someone answered, before the other person could say something, Khaani said in a panicked tone,"Hello Anji, Mir Hadi mujhe kidnap karke Rendevous club le aaya hai! Please help! Sarim ko matt batana!".

"KHAANI!!!", Hadi yelled at her his face red with rage."Tumhari yeh hoshiyari tumhe bohot mehengi paregi Khaani!". "Maine to tumse pehle hi kaha tha ke tum jo chahe karlo main Sarim ko haarne nahi dungi.". "Chahe tumhari Jaan hi kyu na chali jaaye?", Hadi threatened, pointing his gun at her temple.

"Hadi, gun neeche karo!", Ayeza screamed from behind. But the duo paid no heed to her. "Chahe iske liye meri jaan hi kyu na chali jaye! Sibi ke MNA ki seat par sirf Sarim Khan ka naam likha hai!Face it! Tum apne zindagi ka pehla election haar jaoge Mir Hadi! I will personally ensure it!-"

"Thats it!", Ayeza intervened coming between them. "Hadi gun neeche karo! Drop it now!", she screamed trying to get him lower his gun. Hadi lowered his gun but only to grab Ayeza's wrist,"Ab tum mujhe bataogi ke mujhe kya karna chahiye ya nahi karna chahiye?Yeh Matt bhulo ke maine tumhe dump kiya hai! Ok?". Hurt, Ayeza said,"Hadi please, you know na, how much I love you..". She tried to put a hand on his arm but he jerked it away.

"But, I don't",Hadi said bluntly,"Maine tumse zyada delusional aur clingy ladki aaj tak nahi dekhi. Arre jab, Ali ne phone pe bola tha tumhe that we're over so tumhe baat samaj mein nahi aati that we are over! Aur yeh kya kaha tumne isse ke main tumhara hone waala husband hu?! Meri Maa ne tumhe Sharafat se ek cup chai kya pila diya tum toh apne aap ko future Mrs. Mir Hadi samajne lagi. Akal naam ki cheez hai tum mein?". Ayeza looked stricken at his harsh words. "So Mrs. Mir Hadi?", Khaani said bitterly,"Lesson learnt?". Ayeza angrily grabbed Hadi's collar and said,"Tum itne heartless kaise ho sakte hai?! Maine kya kuch nahi kiya tumhare liye!! Tumhe humesha khud se zyada priority di!". Hadi didn't react. He simply released his collar out of her grasp and looked at Mithal, who was standing in a corner. Mithal and another guard caught Ayeza by the arm. "Mithal tumhe sahi salamat ghar tak pohocha dega, Ayeza. Aur haan, agar ainda tumne Aaj jaisa kuch karne ki koshish ki to main hisaab tumse aur tumhari family se lunga.". As a sobbing Ayeza was dragged out of the room, Hadi grabbed Khaani's arm and said,"Main tumhe aakhri warning de raha hu apne bhai ko phone karo warna yahi gadh ke rakh dunga". Looking visibly shaken this time, Khaani finally took the phone from him. Hadi relaxed a bit, thinking she'll finally bend to his will. Instead, Khaani threw the phone across the room, its parts falling into pieces. "Yeh raha mera jawab Mir Hadi", Khaani replied in a cold tone, "Agar khudke dam pe election ladne ki aukaad nahi hai to tum peechhe hatt jao, lekin yeh cheap harkate karke apne khandaan ka naam to Matt dubao".

Hadi's grabbed Khaani by the shoulders and shouted,"Kya bola tumne?!Kya bola?!". "Kya baat hai Mir Hadi sach hazam nahi ho raha hai?", Khaani whispered desperately. She knew there was no way out for her now. But if he was going to destroy her then she might as well tell him what she actually thought of him"...Haan waise hoga bhi kaise shayad zindagi mein pehle baar koi bina darre tumse sach keh raha hai. Aur sach yeh hai ke tum ek khokle insaan ho. Apne surname, apne guards aur apne gun ke alaava tumhare paas kuch nahi hai. Yeh baat voters bhi jaante hai. Iss liye toh tum apne career ka pehla election haar jaoge!".

Her words made Hadi see red. He let go off her arms and raised his gun pointing at her forehead, "Ab tum nahi bachogi, Khaani.", he threatened, unlocking his guns safety catch. Khaani froze in her place. This time Hadi meant business she could see it in his eyes. It finally dawned on her: This could be her last few moments alive. This realisation shook her and tears started coming out of her eyes. Hadi smirked watching her cry, expecting her to plead for her life. Quietly wiping her tears, Khaani said said,"Tum jo chahe karlo, chahe meri jaan hi kyu na le lo Mir Hadi, Sanam Khan tumhare aage nahi jhukegi. Tumhe trigger dabana hai to dabalo, lekin main tumse apni jaan ki bheek nahi mangungi. Main tumse kuch bhi maang kar apne nazro mein nahi gir sakti!". Her words had a strange effect on Hadi. He lowered his gun almost stunned at her words. His action confused Khaani but before she could say anything someone burst open the door of the flat. It was Ali followed by...Anjum. "Hadi, you need to get out of here now!", Ali said. "Kya baat hai?", Hadi asked. Anjum rushed to Khaani's side hugging her, "Are you ok, K?". Khaani nodded,"Chalo yaha se chalte hai.", Khaani said in a small voice. Without casting a second glance at Hadi, Khaani and Anjum left the room.

"Neeche police aur bomb squad wale hai, club ko search kar rahe hai. Club se kisine unko phone karke kaha hai ki yaha pe bomb Mila hai!".

Chapter 11: Mir Hadi's dark side (Eng)

What is she doing with Ayeza? Hadi thought his mind racing; trying to come up with a probable (and harmless) explanation of why Khaani - the woman he has been blackmailing - would be in the same room as the girlfriend he just broke up with. This can't be a coincidence. I know you, you must have done something, he thought looking at Khaani's picture. Putting on his shades, Hadi headed towards his mansion. He needed to see Khaani and he needed to see her now. You better pray that my suspicion is wrong, he thought clenching his fist. Otherwise, I will take such revenge on you and your brother that you will be afraid to even mention the name of Mir Hadi.

"Hadi! Why are you standing there?," Sitara called her son,"Come and sit here." Stone-faced Hadi quietly came and sat in the sofa next to his mother, his eyes fixed on Ayeza, who was determinedly staring at her cup. Ayeza shifted uncomfortably before saying,"Look, I know you don't want to meet me, but I have no other option. I needed to see you.", Ayeza pleaded. "Where did you meet my mother?", Hadi asked softly. "At the club," Ayeza replied,"But I didn't tell her anything about us...I just told her that you were my friend and I hadn't seen you in a long time, so she invited me for tea. I have to say Hadi, your mum is so kind and sweet-". Hadi cut her off,"Do you know Sanam Khan?". Ayeza looked shocked and a little terrified,"How do you know about her?", she asked nervously. Hadi showed her the screenshot. He watched her expression change from confusion to anger. "That Kinza,"she replied annoyed,"She even put her stupid party on social media. Kinza organized the party and invited Khaani and her cousin. I only found out who she was when she introduced herself to me...and that's why I came to see you today...Khaani invited me for an interview today. To talk about our relationship...that's why I came straight to you! She's planning something big against you."

As Ayeza finished speaking, Hadi's anger boiled over. He couldn't believe that someone had played him like this. Khaani had been in on it all along, and now Ayeza was going to interview with her to talk about their "relationship". He won't let her get away with it. "Where is Khaani expecting you to meet her for this interview?", Hadi asked, his voice cold and controlled despite his rage. "At that reporter's house," Ayeza replied, looking at her buzzing phone. "She must be waiting for me." Hadi turned to Mithal. "Take her to my flat. Now," he commanded. "Yes, Chhote Mir," Mithal replied

A servant opened it and in came the formidable Sanam Khan, struggling as her hands were tied behind her back and a mask covering her face, looking every bit helpless as he wanted her to be."Here’s Sanam Khan, Chhote Mir", the man on her left said. "Very good", he replied smirking.

"Welcome Ms. Sanam Khan! I was waiting for you!", Hadi announced in a false cheery tone. He got up from his seat and walked towards Khaani whose face was still covered in the mask. Hadi smirked, she looked powerless and defenceless. Good, he thought to himself, This is just the beginning. "Mir Hadi, you are making a mistake!", she snapped. Hadi scoffed and replied,"Really, I am making a mistake? You cheat me, break your promise and try to double-cross me and I am making a mistake? My father was right when he said that you Khans have no intelligence.".

"At least we are not cowards like the Mirs who don't have the courage to fight their enemies upfront!", Khaani snapped back indignantly. Hadi pulled the mask off her face. For few seconds Khaani blinked; her eyes trying to adjust to the light. Her expression soon turned into one of anger, when Hadi stepped in front of her, his face inches away from hers. His stony expression broke into a grin,"I am impressed that even in so much trouble your spirit is still intact. I will enjoy crushing it under my feet.". "You are mistaken", Khaani countered,"If you think that I will bow down to a person like you...(addressing Ayeza) I have seen many girls but I have never seen a more self-destructive girl than you. Do you have any self-respect at all?". Ayeza scowled at her and replied,"Oh please don't blame this on me. Just like you were thinking about your brother's future, I was also thinking about my future husband's career. So how does that make me self-destructive?".

"Future husband?!", Khaani scoffed, "Are you serious?". Khaani moved past Hadi, who himself looked amused at Ayeza's words, and stood in front of Ayeza, "Do you really think that this man who changes girlfriends every week, who dominates you, who breaks up with you through his friend - will marry you?!". "Amazing", Hadi interjected, "In such a short time, you've told her so much about us Ayeza, it seems you've become fast friends with Khaani."

"Trust me, Hadi," Ayeza pleaded, "She manipulated me, I didn't tell her anything intentionally. I always knew that we had something special-". Khaani cut her off, "Oh my god, what kind of mess have I gotten myself into," Khaani said frustratedly, looking upwards. She turned towards Hadi and said, "Look, now that everything is out in the open, you should understand this too: Sarim will not withdraw his nomination no matter what happens. Keeping me here, holding me captive, is not going to benefit you in any way. So, it is better for you to delete that footage and let me go. I promise I won't tell anyone that you kidnapped me. Got it?". "Wait," Ayeza interjected, "What footage is she talking about, Hadi?". Neither Hadi nor Khaani responded. "Do you think you are in a position to make threats?", Hadi said threateningly, "The footage is still with me. All I have to do is leak it and Sarim will lose the election on his own."

"If you had so much confidence in your plan, you would have leaked the footage already," Khaani said, walking towards him, "You wouldn’t have blackmailed me for a week."

"Why don't we just leave the decision to Sarim?" Hadi said, untying her hands and handing her his phone, "Here, call your brother and tell him to come here. I will deal with him now." Hadi said resolutely. "I won't do that!" Khaani said stubbornly. Hadi scoffed and said, "Of course, I forgot that you don’t obey easily." Hadi took out his gun and pointed it at her, "Call Sarim now and tell him to come here or else he'll have to identify your body in the morgue, understand? So, call him quickly! Here!" Khaani gingerly took the phone from him and dialed a number. Someone answered, before the other person could say something, Khaani said in a panicked tone, "Hello Anji, Mir Hadi kidnapped me and brought me to Rendezvous club! Please help! Don't tell Sarim!"

"KHAANI!!!", Hadi yelled at her, his face red with rage. "Your cleverness will cost you dearly!" "I already told you that I won't let Sarim lose, no matter what you do."Khaani snapped back. "Even if it means sacrificing your own life?" Hadi threatened, pointing his gun at her temple. "Hadi, lower your gun!", Ayeza screamed from behind. But the duo paid no heed to her. "Even if it means risking my life! The seat of Sibi MNA belongs to Sarim Khan! Face it! You will lose your first election, Mir Hadi! I will personally ensure it!-"

"That's it!", Ayeza intervened coming between them. "Hadi, lower your gun! Drop it now!", she screamed trying to get him to lower his gun. Hadi lowered his gun but only to grab Ayeza's wrist,"Now, are you going to tell me what to do or not do? Don't forget, I dumped you! Ok?". Hurt, Ayeza said,"Hadi please, you know na, how much I love you..". She tried to put a hand on his arm but he jerked it away. "But, I don't",Hadi said bluntly,"I haven't seen a more delusional and clingy girl than you. Ali called you and said we're over, yet you don't seem to understand that we are actually over! And what did you say to her about me being your future husband? My mother graciously invited you for a cup of tea and now you think you're the future Mrs. Mir Hadi. Do you have any sense?". Ayeza looked stricken at his harsh words. "So Mrs. Mir Hadi?", Khaani said bitterly,"Lesson learnt?". Ayeza angrily grabbed Hadi's collar and said,"How can you be so heartless?! Haven't I done everything for you?! I always gave you more priority than myself!". Hadi didn't react. He simply released his collar out of her grasp and looked at Mithal, who was standing in a corner. Mithal and another guard caught Ayeza by the arm. "Mithal will take you home safely, Ayeza. And if you try to pull off something like this again, Remember you haven’t seen the worst of me.". As a sobbing Ayeza was dragged out of the room, Hadi grabbed Khaani's arm and said,"I am giving you one final warning, call your brother or I'll bury you alive right here right now". Looking visibly shaken this time, Khaani finally took the phone from him. Hadi relaxed a bit, thinking she'll finally bend to his will. Instead, Khaani threw the phone across the room, its parts scattering at different directions. "That's my answer, Mir Hadi", Khaani replied in a cold tone, "If you don't have the courage to fight an election, then step down, but don't disgrace your family name with these cheap tactics".

Hadi grabbed Khaani by the shoulders and shouted, "What did you say?! What did you say?!" "What's the matter, Mir Hadi, can't handle the truth?", Khaani whispered desperately. She knew there was no way out for her now. But if he was going to destroy her then she might as well tell him what she actually thought of him. "Maybe for the first time in your life, someone is telling you the truth without fear. And the truth is that you have nothing to offer except your surname, your guards, and your gun. The voters know this too. That's why you'll lose your first election," her words made Hadi see red. He let go of her arms and raised his gun pointing at her forehead, "You are dead, Khaani", he threatened, unlocking his gun's safety catch. Khaani froze in her place. This time Hadi meant business she could see it in his eyes. It finally dawned on her: This could be her last few moments alive. This realization shook her and tears started coming out of her eyes. Hadi smirked watching her cry, expecting her to plead for her life. Quietly wiping her tears, Khaani said,"Do whatever you want, even if you take my life, Mir Hadi, Sanam Khan will never bow down to you. If you want to pull the trigger, do it, but I will not beg for my life from you. I can't demean myself to beg for anything in front of you!". Her words had a strange effect on Hadi. He lowered his gun almost stunned at her words. His action confused Khaani but before she could say anything, someone burst open the door of the flat. It was Ali followed by...Anjum. "Hadi, you need to get out of here now!", Ali said. "What's going on?", Hadi asked. Anjum rushed to Khaani's side hugging her, "Are you ok, K?". Khaani nodded,"Let's go from here.", Khaani said in a small voice. Without casting a second glance at Hadi, Khaani and Anjum left the room.

Ali replied, “The police and the bomb squad are downstairs, they are searching the club. Someone called them from the club and told them that there is a bomb here!"
