Unexpectedly Shehroz fell in love with Ushna and her hidden insecurities started to become visible in her actions.

That’s where she miscalculated I think where she thought her son will never fall in love. Her overconfidence where she saw Shehroz and Zunaisha whom he brought was good enough to think that Ushna is not even his choice so she can manage him and her.

That backfired on her big time as her baby boy was attracted to her and she should have thought as which guy will marry a girl who clearly says she is not interested?

so here are some of my thoughts:

1. I read this somewhere but I can't remember all the details. so please excuse if I get stuff wrong. from what I understood, the number of working women in PK is less in comparison to other countries. especially after marriage, many do not continue to work. this means the bulk of the audience watching these dramas are at home. so they would have antagonistic attitude towards women who are able to have the freedom to go out and be independent. a sort of indirect jealousy.

2. if you are earning your own money, then you are also going to be inclined to be making your own decisions. part of that is pratical -- think about it. if there is an issue at work or if you have to figure out your transport to get there, you are not going to be able to rely on your family or ask for help. once you start thinking for yourself, you are bound to have opinions. you will express them. therefore, it is seen as negative -- these women have thoughts and opinions that contradict the mother-in-law. these women also have thoughts that challenge the men. these women are also capable of surviving on their own and need men emtionally but not necessarily financially. therefore, the lack of dependence makes them less sanskari and "bad"

Totally agree. Dramas are literally catering into the insecurities of these women instead of showing that women needs to be strong. Also pak seems to be way more patriarchal than india.

They have something called aurat march where women comes out on road to rebel against patriarchy but even a lot of young male actors address it as bad.

I recently saw feroze khan saying why women are not coming out with an aurat march for aamir (forgot his full name, the guy who recently died after a fight with his 3rd wife)? Like how dumb should one be to understand aurat march is to empower women and not for men. If he is that desperate then start a mard march.

Ya who is this Aamir? I read about this case once in NZ. This man had two wives one legally married and other religious. He was watching tele and holding one wife’s hand and so the other one asks him why is he not holding her hand. He waits until his series is over and then gets a hammer and beats her hand with it.

She rings the cops and case goes to trial - he says and I kid you not that I stopped when she told me to and she should know her place, it’s her own fault she opened her mouth. His lawyer shuts him up and goes it’s his culture and he doesn’t know.

Anyway the Judge didn’t buy it and sentenced him and he was deported as he was a convict and a bigamist as under NZ laws two marriages are illegal. But the fact that even educated class don’t understand what women’s empowerment is, is no surprise. They think it means equality but they forget it also means equity.

I agree with you. We have discussed this befors too that how Shehroz did not have any company apart from his mom. His arrogant and egoistic nature did not allow him to be friends with others apart from his obsession with his mother. It does seem that he always had been a lonely child who always wanted a companion. With mother , he could not share everything considering he was concern for her health. He was friends with Zunaisha but he did not feel connected to her considering she had different aspirations. He found his reflection in Ushna. Similar to him , a brat, vulnerable from inside, but someone who did not back down in front of him, stubborn like him. Something along the lines of how Kashaf fit in the kind of wife Zaroon wanted. He will never let go off Ushna as he knows he will not get another Ushna in his life considering how his personality is. That is what Naima could not get. Her son lived a lonely life and with Ushna ,he has gotten his empty part of life full.

The opposites are so stark isn’t? Here if you don’t work that means you need help and support. Girl or guy they are supposed to be independent. So it’s interesting that other side of the coin is majority don’t work and are housewives.

So it all comes back to the patriarchal society where rules are men made and women basically just says okay and those who do question it gets labeled as bad or unworthy?

it is complicated. so I remember vaguely this movie from the 70s about this woman who goes to work and all the issues that happen at home. this was probably early when more women were joining the workforce. so she struggles with setting boundaries with her boss, trying to manage her housework as well as fighting with her egoistic husband. she quits because she is so stressed. but then her husband is forced to come around because they are financially strapped. he ends up having to tone down his ego and tells her to go to work while he takes care of home. it ended with both being rather miserable. basically he was miserable that he had failed as a man to be able to provide for the home and she felt miserable because she actually didn't want to work and wanted to be housewife. so it was an interesting take but it was also a reminder that ultimately this is about feelings. many of these women-men struggles are really about feeling wanted, feeling needed and feeling like they have done the role that society expects of them.

I will be honest -- I have no idea what on earth people mean when they say these new age words like "patriachy" -- from my experience, every culture, every tribe, the equation changes and it is far more complex and it isn't necessarily comparable. there are certain communities where the women have no voice but a blanket word like patriachy just doesn't sit right with me.

so let me explain -- I had this conversation with a coworker once and he came a from a community that would have been termed patriachal. however, the picture was far more complex. he said he made no decisions at home -- that was all his mom or his elder sister or wife. so there was a huge tug of war between these 3 women and his job was to stay put and watch. he didn't feel like he had a voice or say even though for name sake, he was the head of the house. so he argued that people have such a wrong perception of his culture when they don't realize how much power these women have.

more thoughts on another post.... let me go get my tea! 😊

I don't know his drama with his first 2 wives but my insta feed was filled with his 3rd wife drama. He literally married an 18-19yr old girl. I guess she is younger than his children. Then showed her off like some kind of trophy to the public. I guess they even posted some gross photos together.

Then something happened and he divorced her or she left him or something and they started throwing dirt at one another. He called her a prostitute and leaked some of her private chats or pics. Then she went one step ahead and posted his nude videos.

Then he died and everyone is blaming that he died because the girl leaked his private videos. They are blaming a 19yr old girl for ruining the life of a 50yr old guy.

Sure she was in the wrong but he wasn't a saint either.

Some male celebs like Feroze Khan is blaming feminism for this.

I think only farhan saeed had the audacity to say that people shouldn't troll the girl over his death.
