Precisely Ho. This is what I told my students when I showed them this video. It was totally irrelevant to what I was teaching but I wanted to dispel the misconception that people in this part of the world harbour- that white people are racists and look down on foreigners. I lived there for more than a dozen years and I could count on one hand the number of times I had racist encounters - and that too from uneducated yobs.

I showed my students how a British Muslim and a British Sikh can have fun dancing to an Afro-American pop song and driving white audience wild with cheer and joy. This is even more remarkable because it was post-7/7. Wasn't it amazing to see such exuberance that made people jump up in joy? And that little black girl, who was smiling, showing all her teeth and clapping.....wasn't she just adorable?

Videos like these really make my day. 😃

Karthi, you must be an amazing teacher to use that video to teach something truly out of the box!ie not text book orientated!

The world is defnitely changing. With Obama everyone can aspire to be president of the USA!

In Malaysia where the constitution protects Malay Rights giving them an edge above others, I am proud to declare that the public was non racist when they voted an Indian girl to be our first Malaysian Idol! She was pitted against a Malay girl.

Ho, I use all kinds of aids to teach - videos, poems, newspaper articles - last semester I gave my students a short story by Roald Dahl called Lamb to Slaughter. I don't teach Literature or English!! 😆 Of course, I try and make some oblique connection to my subject. 😆
