Sri, Sister of My Heart is fabulous, just fabulous. The language used is so amazing....I love all her books. 😃 😃

I just finished reading The Palace Diaries. I wrote an online review and ended with "I want my money back". Yes, I was that disappointed

Got a chance to read a few books last month

After reading Kite runner i wanted to read other books of Khaled Hosseini and i got "A thousand splendid Suns".

Beyond the politics, this is a book about a society/culture where gender discrimination is an accepted practice. The story happens through 50 years of history in Afghanistan. While it may be depressing, it also presents strong spirited women, who can endure the unthinkable and be resilient-particularly in their role as mothers- in an oppressive society and still make the best they can under the circumstances. The book is very much like kite runner, though it is interesting and i read it in a day...its quite depressing as well.

The Diana Chronicles by Tina Brown.

I try to maintain an attitude of bemused indifference to the British royals, but this is a very good book. Reminds me of the movie: The Queen. Sympathetic without fawning, understanding without condoning.

Unlike other biographical books on Princess Diana, this book takes an analytical approach weighing the credence of various claims, and showing no favoritism or national bias. I recommend this as a good read.

Madhu, The Kite Runner was sad but riveting. Was it the same with A Thousand Suns? I went to the bookshop and checked it out - far too expensive at the moment. 😕

This book is quite intense as well.....its about two women from different generations..one is an illegal child who is married to an older man and the other is laila who eventually gets married to the same older man. The characters leave you shaking in anger one minute, and crying in sorrow the next minute.

Glad you liked Kite-runner, Madhu. I started reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" one night, then got swamped with work and never managed to finish it. Thanks for the synopsis. Hopefully, on my next long-distance trip next month, I'll be able to read the book.
