CONGRATULATIONS TO MADHU BALAKRISHNAN & THANJAI THALAPATHIGAL
At the suggestion of Migan and other Madhu Balakrishnan fans, I am opening this thread to congratulate Madhu and his team members -- Suchitra, Kavya and Bharath -- for winning the inaugural Amul Sangeetha Maha Yuttham competition (telecast finally on 10 October 2010).
The boss of Amul, who gave away the prizes, announced that they were planning to replicate the show in future.
Madhu Balakrishnan has been singing in Tamil films for more than a decade and only now, through this show, has begun to gain recognition among Tamil audiences though he has got a Tamilnadu Film Award and a Kalaimamani award.
Suchitra is a very promising singer, with a good voice and sound classical training. I hope she will make it in the film world. Kavya, only 11 years old, has made tremendous improvement in the course of the show and got full marks from the judges in the finals. Bharath still needs improvement but, hopefully, with Madhu's guidance he will develop.
Needless to say, if not for Madhu's role and performance as captain, Thanjai Thalapathigal would not have won the show; they may not have even reached the semi-finals. May his fame and success grow.
👏👏👏👏

Migan, further to your post highlighting a video clip of Madhu's "Konja neram" song from the movie, here's a link to a video clip in which Madhu appears on SMY singing the same song.

Madhu appears about 2 1/2 minutes into the clip and he starts singing about a minute later.
I prefer to see Madhu than the older Thalaivar 😉
Oh, and while I like Konja Neram, my favourite of Madhu's is this classically-based song from the movie Paasa Killigal. It's called "Thendral ennum thear". Awesome. Here's a link to the track (audio only)

I just heard this song from Pasa Kiligal movie. Very nice song with classical music background. Shows his voice very well. I always like Tamil songs in classical form.

Although he is basically from Kerala - He pronounces the words very nicely. Guess he had classical singing training.

My another favorite is "Pitchai Paathiram" song from the movie Naan Kadavul. I did not post the you tube link here as that song is sad to watch.

This is the link to audio if you want to listen to it. Well identifies his voice.

Migan, thanks for your post. Yes, I too like the Pichai Pathiram song. Full of emotion.

Yes, Madhu is classically trained -- although he started his classical training in Kerala at an early age, he later studied full-time at a music academy in Chennai for four years.
He had a bit of a pronunciation problem in his earlier Tamil songs -- the Malayalam accent was very apparent. When he speaks, the Malayalam accent is all the more evident -- and quite cute too, especially since he uses more formal Tamil than the colloquial Tamil the Tamil-speaking singers use (I am referring to his remarks in Sangeetha M).
That said, his pronunciation has improved tremendously. The Malayalam accent is less apparent in his latest songs. What I like about his singing is that there is clarity of words; he doesn't swallow his words. He slurs and sings in a huskier or soft tone only in romantic songs. And, I must say he modulates his voice very well and hardly sounds like Madhu, the classical singer, in his romantic songs. In the song "Attrai thingal" (Sivapathigaram), for instance, he sings almost in a whisper.

Hi I saw a little bit of an episode where SMY2 is going to start. The hostess is a different girl not Chinmayee. I am not sure if they showed who are the singers/Captains.
