I did Sathish - actually The day of the jackal deserves more kudos as it was done in days when technology was limited. But seeing Bruce Willis as the ace killer was different. I have seen a few in your list . I can add a few more - some personal favorites

When Harry met Sally with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan
The Princess bride
Back to the Future - loved Michael J Fox
E.T ...the list goes on -

And one serial which I can watch over and over and over...E.R

hi roja,

There is so many tv series which are good in american channels that one is spoilt for a choice. But of the recent ones these are really good.

1-homeland
2-blue bloods
3-damages
4-grimm
5-covert affairs
6-hell on wheels
7-justified

But i guess these are slightly action filled series and i am not sure if they will appeal to a lady.yet my wife is as action crazy as me and digs these series .

The autopsy report

For even the most experienced and wisest pathologists,to conduct an autopsy on a child is the most difficult thing and when the death is due to sucpicious circumstances, then it becomes even more dificult. If the body is found fresh and has just died then the doctors are able to determine the causes very quickly for if the death is due to poison, some of the lethal ones break down very quickly and cannot be found in the blood and toxicology tests.

Well that said i jump to the most important autopsy which is of the perfomance of our olympic contigent which took part at the just concluded olympics. We are again resigned to the fact that we won a few silver and a few bronze medals and know in our hearts that we were and are not capable of winning anything more at least not the amount of medals which china our nearest neighbour has won.
It begs the question the basic question of what india is and what being an indian stands for.Well i will tell you being an indian stand for nothing when we feel indian just on certain days of the year like the republic day or an independence day.Was this the way it has always been and i suspect that the indian way is just a moniker for us to come together in a frenzy for certain causes, like when we are under attack(kargil war),chinese intrusion into arunachal pradesh etc.The other causes we come together is when corruption on a grand scale is committed of if an old person like anna hazare fasts unto death.

When the first uprising for independence took place in 1857,there were indians who fought aside the british and killed thousands of their own countrymen.During the jalianwala bagh massacre hundreds of indian policemen thrashed and killed their own countrymen. It is only after india came together as a republic that all states have had to tow the line of one country and being indian.

If you wonder why china has won so many gold medals in the olympics and are today the new economic and military super power,it is this, that they are single minded when it come to the pursuit of goals and unfaltering commitment by their government.

When you compare that to our country what do you see or view in the political landscape and in the government. We are spoilt for choice during the polls and are forced to choose between jackals and bandicoots. With the government, our senior leaders and politicians covered in such filth do you think that the officials who run the government are far away.Take kalmadi, take sharad pawar and then wonder why they but not senior sportsmen like milkha singh and others are the ones who run and make decisions in our day to day sports.

Well partisan politics, caste and creed surely rule our sports and until all that obstacles are removed,i am sorry to say we will win a few bronze or silver medals and that too mind it in only individual sports.Take that stupid woman, some dancer from bangalore who gate crashed the olympic ceremony. Now when you have such stupidity taking place what future do you forsee for sports and other activities in our country.

I will end this lamentation by saying that we are up the creek without a paddle and it is going to take efforts from every one of us to make this nation a better place and to win more and hold our heads high among other nations.

The god of little ones

When i was growing up and i am talking about those years between four and 13,the god i always found easy to relate to was ganesha. In a regular hindu household regardless of one being saivaite or vaishnavaite, people in those households will surely have a picture of lord ganesha.Maybe those really ardent vaishnavaites might not practice the habit or make an allowance for anything to do with saivism and that is their wish. But in most cases a phots of ganesha will be present in the pooja room and sometimes near the entrance of the house or probably have his picture on the door. The beautiful thing about faith in god is that we can worship him in various forms and nobody will object and there is something funny and spiritual about it.I remember someone mentioning that there is a small temple of ganesha built by followers of cricket and they have actually dressed up the god with leg pads, gloves and a bat to boot.

Some might find this funny but i guess for most indians this is not something new or anything out of the ordinary for it all has to do with faith. If there is a god and he is all knowing, then surely he will listen to your prayers regardless of what form you pray to him or worship him.For in the end like all rivers flowing towards the sea all our prayers will reach him vishiva, vishnu, christ, allah, ganesha and muruga.

There are a few technicalities i should get out of my way and those are the names of the different sects of worship of gods in hinduism and mind you i am just naming the broad and commonly practiced one.

SAIVISM-WORSHIP OF LORD SHIVA

VAISHNAVISM-WORSHIP OF LORD VISHNU OR NARAYANA

SHAKTAM-WORSHIP OF LORD SHIVA

GANABATYAM-WORSHIP OF LORD GANESHA

KAUMARAM-WORSHIP OF LORD MURUGA

For most of us hindus, praying to ganesha comes easy and it could be one of the first god we call out to when in trouble. From my 3rd std and until my 9th my aunt used to take us to visit this ganesha temple near mahalingapuram. In the 70's it was just a small siva temple and yet had already gained fame for good things that happened to devotees who visited that temple.I remember we used to,regularly see telugu actor chiranjeevi and of course we
didnt care much for actors but maybe we would have stopped to see mgr or shivaji for those were the only actors we had seen on films and tv.

The temple had lord shiva in the middle and ganesha on his right and muruga on his left and just next to the entrance there was lord hanuman. When i entered the temple the first god i used to run to was ganesha and standing next to his ride the rat,i used to close my eyes and mumble something. But mostly i used to pray to him to get

me pass marks in maths and physics, subject in which i sucked and sucked majorly. The funniest part was after praying to ganesha my time was spent chasing my cousins buju and bindu around the navagrahas.Funnily today when me and my wife go the local ratngireeshwar temple she diligently does nine rounds around the navagrahas and throws glares when i just stand there.I only wish she had been there to se how many times we ran around those navagrahas in tehe temple of my childhood and how many times we played hide and seek there. The chief priest of that temple used to come home for ganesh chaturti to do the pooja and i think the old man is till hanging on to dear life. The poojas used to be so damn boring but for the excitement of bringing the idol of ganesha home.On pooja day we were forced to have oil baths a ritual i used to hate and
then wearing new clothes me and my younger cousins used to wait eagerly for our uncle to take the car out so we could go the market to purchase an idol of ganesha. We mostly purchased a colored and medium sized idol and it was always my privelege to carry him in a silver tray brought out for pooja days.I don't much about pride but carrying that idol in my skinny arms did fill me with something nice and i felt like i was floating on air.I have to confess that with idol leaning on my chest there were many a times when i plonked a kiss on ganeshas head and that with total love and devotion.I knew i
was doing something special and that i was carrying something special and when we neared the entrance of our house, either
vanitha or asha used to take aarti for the god and then we placed him in a special mandapam in the hall.

The ganesha pooja used to be a major affair and friends from afar used to drop in and stay back for lunch. And me,all i wanted was the sundal and kollukottais to gobble and you know they had this special payasam they used to make to go along with kollukottai. In our house they were called kudubu or something for my memory fails me.But ganesha pooja was the start of the good time for soon ayudha pooja used to follow and then diwali. The only thing that used to break my heart was after the ganesha pooja sometimes one day or three days but definitely we used to drive to the beach to throw ganesha into the sea.I never understood then and i dont understand it now why we do this or why it is practiced in such a fashion.

well ganesh chaturti is around the corner and soon tiny tots from the slum nearby will cross my house carrying small clay colored ganeshas in their tiny arms and small umbrella to boot.I will stand as always watching them go and think of those days when i too carried ganesha home.made of clay and those that make it step on it,drink and paint him, remain unclean when they shape him but ultimately the idol comes home in arms that believe in him and love him.

Om maha ganapathaye namah.

Hi,

These are the lyrics of a song called open arms by the rock group journey.I love this song and other songs by the same group.I wanted to share this song with you all.Be well.

Open arms

Lying beside you, here in the dark
Feeling your heart beat with mine
Softly you whisper, you're so sincere
How could our love be so blind
We sailed on together
We drifted apart
And here you are by my side
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/journey/open+arms_20075675.html ]
So now I come to you, with open arms
Nothing to hide, believe what I say
So here I am with open arms
Hoping you'll see what your love means to me
Open arms

Living without you, living alone
This empty house seems so cold
Wanting to hold you, wanting you near
How much I wanted you home

But now that you've come back
Turned night into day
I need you to stay.

posted here is the you tube link for the same song.

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was
really pissed.

She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!"

The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Bob has been missing since Friday.

We called her Aunt Tique.

A. Hogs and Kisses!

Q. Do skunks celebrate Valentine's Day?
A. Sure, they're very scent-imental!
