'If I stayed home any longer, I'd over-protect my kids'

Actress Renuka Shahane will be back soon on television after a long hiatus

How does it feel to be back on television after such a long break? What is the show all about?
Oh God! (Laughs) Life has suddenly become so hectic. I hardly plan anything in life. I just hope I can take better control of my life once I start shooting for this new serial on Sony. I am not supposed to reveal anything about the show. We are still deciding on the title.

Are you feeling the first day jitters?

Yes. Although I am a confident person, it is the mere thought of facing the camera, is making me a little nervous. I still remember the day when I first faced the camera.

You just disappeared after Kora Kaagaz. What kept you away from acting so long?

Family had become my first priority. My children are still young; aged four and two respectively. I was not keen on taking up work because I didn't want my family to suffer. Unlike before, working in television has become too tedious these days. Earlier, I was unmarried and didn't have a family to take care of. But then, I thought if I stayed home longer, I would end up becoming an over-protective parent.

How is your life going to be once the shooting begins?

It is surely going to be a tough job. I don't live in a joint family where elders can take care of my children while I am away. But the best part will be that I will finally start exercising.

Didn't you miss being in the limelight?

I am basically a home-bird. I was happy being at home and taking care of my children all these years. I have no complaints.

You are also working on a script. Would you like to elaborate on it?

Yes, I have finished writing a film script. It is a psychological thriller. I always wanted to direct a film. I had started my career in this industry as an assistant director and acting only happened by default. I also intend to launch a production house some day.

Do you want to see your children acting on the big screen?
My elder son Shouryaman didn't enjoy the little role that he recently played in his school play. On the other hand, my younger son Satyatendra excels in imitating people around him.
