Grand Wedlock

Come October and cricket and entertainment will enter into a grand wedlock. MAX, India's premier entertainment channel, has unveiled its plans for the world's biggest cricketing event this year - the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 that is due to be played in the country for the first time Speaking in detail on the plans for the championship, Albert Almeida, Executive VP and Business Head-MAX said, "Today MAX stands tall as the innovator and thought leader as far as cricket entertainment is concerned. This October, MAX will further push the envelope into hitherto unexplored territory by presenting elements that make for an exciting cricket telecast. Hosted by the first couple of Indian cricket Mandira Bedi and Charu Sharma, Extraa Innings will be back with new exciting features." To add glitz and glamour in its cricket presentation, the channel has roped in popular TV stars Rohit Roy and Shonali Nagrani. While Rohit Roy will be co-presenting various entertainment segments of Extraa Innings along with Mandira Bedi and Charu Sharma, Shonali will add a huge dash of glamour and entertainment as the roving reporter. This year there will be several segments of the show namely 'Hunt to join the world cup Extraa Innings team, Predict 2 win, Tiger Deewana, Voice of India, Snapshots of India, Hawk Eye, Fan Reaction, Q & A, Message Board, India on Tour' and Khel Kismat Ka. An added attraction will be that viewers who prefer to watch cricket in Hindi will be able to enjoy a world-class Hindi feed on SAB. "SAB will show all the six key matches in Hindi - the three India matches, the semi finals and the final," said N.P. Singh, COO, Sony. MAX is the pioneer in presenting the game of willow in a unique style. "This year too with the ICC Champions Trophy 2006, we promise to further enhance the family viewing experience," remarked Kunal Dasgupta, CEO SET India Private Ltd.

This year the Live Cricketing action will be spearheaded by stalwarts of the game like Tony Greig, Geoffrey Boycott, Ian Chappel, Barry Richards, Sanjay Manjrekar, Arun lal, Donna Symonds, John Wright and our very own expert Navjot Singh Siddhu. The Hindi commentators will comprise Atul Wasan, Maninder Singh, Saba Karim and Nikhil Chopra.

It may be recalled that when for the first time MAX telecast the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002, it created viewership history and marked a turning point in the way cricket was telecast in India. It converted a seven-hour game of cricket watched by a predominately male population into an 11-hour entertainment extravaganza watched by the entire family. Across the several ICC events since, MAX has created newer benchmarks in creative programming and promotion.
