Part Three B -
Although, both were married now, it was not complete until they were legally binded. Karthik knew his father would have informed Raji's home about them not in the conference, which meant Manoj searching for them.
On the other side of the city, Manoj and his mother fumed knowing that there was a mishap occur, and was not sure of where Raji went. She was the pawn of their game and that meant, both of them were in danger until Raji was back in her room, locked. Karthik's parents started to worry about their whereabouts as well, hoping both would return safely. But Manoj couldn't let Raji out for long, and he started getting restless. He informed his mob gang to search every police station in the city to look for Raji.
Karthik's dad constantly kept calling him, but Karthik could not pick it up. They were actually safe only after legally signing those papers, and he couldn't let anything go wrong in the middle.
Both were stuck in the middle of traffic, and Karthik started get frustrated. "Raji namba seekiram register office kku poganum, or ellam waste aaiyudum... They started searching for us..." "Karthik is there no other way to get to the place? Ennaku bayam--" Karthik saw her freeze like a statue with fear evident in her eyes through his bike mirror. "Raji... Enna aachu? Ketkuren la, enna aachu?" "Ka-Karthik... The car on the right corner of us... Adhu Manoj oda mob leader... Nambala paarthutaanga naa, avalodhaan... Karthik they will kill us..." She started to get frantic. Karthik became more tensed, he couldn't think clearly. "Raji, nee kavala pa--" He saw the guy catch hold of them, he looked furious, and instructed something to his driver. "Raji get hold of me, fast" he screamed, startling her for a moment, but she clutched his shoulders tightly and with that Karthik zoomed off on his bike without waiting for the signal to turn green.
The signal to turned green and the guy ordered the driver to follow Karthik's bike. He called Manoj to let him know of Karthik and Raji. Karthik sped too far away for the car to locate them, but little did he know of Manoj and his influence in the city. There were several of his men around the city looking for them, and one of those saw Karthik and Raji enter the register office.
"Register office?" Manoj was seething in anger. Karthik's parents and his mom were confused from what he meant. His mother questioned him, "Register office ah? Enna register office? Edhukku?" "Amma, Karthik and Raji anga irukaradha information vandhu irukku... We need to go there immediately..." Karthik's parents told Manoj and his mother that they will come there in their car and Manoj left them to it.
"Whaaattt?" Karthik almost screamed at the front desk, he was restless, "Registrar innum varalai ah?"He was pacing up and down the aisle, tension building up on him. Raji was scared, she prayed every god she could think of, as she very well knew that if this doesn't work out then it will not only be her, but Karthik in big trouble as well. She hoped, in the worst case, Karthik would be safe as he was going through all the complications because of her.
"Sorry Mr. Karthik... It is my fault of arriving so late, I was stuck in traffic, sorry..." She saw the registrar running inside towards them, breaking her chain of thoughts. Karthik snapped back at him, "Enga, nelamai puriyaama ippadi late ah vareenga? Inneram yaaravadhu vandhu irundhaa enna aaiyurukkum? Ivalo irresponsible ah irupeengala? Innaiku morning unga veetukku vandhu sollitu ponnen la?" "I am so sorry Karthik... Unga nelamai ennaku puriyudhu, and not to worry as I have every document ready and in order... Verum neenga rendu perum sign potta podhum..."
Karthik went through all the papers and signed them first. It wasn't just pertaining to their legal marriage, but a lot of other transfers of Raji's current legal situation to his family as she was just 18. He handed over everything to Raji for her sign, and she was, Karthik was getting more and more restless. He knew they would be here any minute now, and Raji needed to finish fast.
She was still signing the last few papers, when Karthik heard a car screech to a stop outside the register office. He knew it was his parents and Manoj. "Raji fast, seekiram... They are here.." He rushed her, Raji came to the last paper to be signed.
She held her pen firm and signed her name, completing the all the formalities. Karthik felt a relief wash over him, just as she finished. She was truly Karthik's better half now.
"NOOO..." Manoj shouted as he and his mother came inside to see them both married. "No no no..." he looked furious. Karthik turned around to face him with a victorious grin on his face. "Too late dude... You lost the game..." Karthik looked as chill as ever, with a smile on his face. It irritated Manoj to heights, "You can never win... Manoj doesn't lose in front of idiots like you..." Right then Karthik's parents entered into the scene as well. It took them a moment to realize what had happened. They were beyond shocked to see his son in a register office, married to a girl.
"Dei Karthi... Enna da idhu?" his father questioned him. "Appa naan solradha konjam--" Manoj interfered, "You don't need to say a crap... Just let her go... Raji ah anupidu..." Raji was frightened, and out of instinct she clutched Karthik's arm from the side. "Mudiyaadhu... She is my wife... Do you hear me right? We are legally wedded, and she is my wife now..." Karthik replied calmly at the same time with a tone of firmness in his voice... Manoj was boiling in anger, he stormed up to Karthik and was about to punch him when someone grabbed him from behind. Manoj turned around to see the police who caught him. He was way too shocked to react. "Raji nee Inspector kitta statement kudu and I will be back..."
Karthik went up to his parents who stood near the office door. "Appa, Amma... Konjam en kooda vaanga... I will explain everything to you..." He took them to the car and explained everything from start to end. He told them about Raji, Manoj and his mother, last night when Raji told him everything, and how they got married today, up until his parents came into scene. "Idhukku melaiyum naan thappu senjen nnu neenga nenaicheenga naa, ennaku enna punishment venaalum thaanga... Anaa Raji ah mattum vittutu vara sollidadheenga... I have the utmost respect for you as my parents and if in any way you feel that I have shattered it, then I am sorry... Enna manichudunga..." Karthik looked down, not knowing what to say.
"Ippadiyaa Karthik naanga unna valathom?" his dad questioned him. "Nee yosichadhu unnakku sari nnu pattudhu naa ennaikkum thalai kuniya koodaadhu... Not even in front of your parents... Enaa enga paiyyan ennaikum thappu panna maatan nnu engalukku theriyum... But today... You have made us proud my son... What you have done today is not easy for anyone in your place, but you faced it willingly... Karthik, be confident in your decision, as it is the most correct one..." Karthik's mom was too lost for words, instead she gave a motherly kiss on his forehead. Karthik felt too overwhelmed to react. "Thanks Appa, Amma... Neenga idha eppadi eduthukuveenga nnu theriyaama I was really worried... But you are truly the best parents in the world..." They all smiled together. "En marumagal ah welcome pannanum... Vaanga polaam..." His mom was too excited that she hurried back inside with Karthik and his dad following behind.
"Mr. Manoj... You are under arrest for public violence... Come with us..." The inspector took him outside as Karthik and family came in. Karthik grinned widely at Manoj who glared at him. His mother was cursing Raji for ruining her son's life, she stared at all of them in hate and walked away.
Raji turned around to see Karthik's parents standing there. She couldn't figure out what happened outside, or what their reactions were. She looked at Karthik with a puzzled face to which he smiled wide and blinked at her reassuring everything was alright. That was all needed for her to understand that everything was alright and she smiled back. "Raji vaa maa... Namba veetukku polaam..." Karthik's mom held her and brought her outside while Karthik finished up everything at the register office and walked out. He silently sent a thank you' up to God, for taking them through the hardest part of this pursuit.
