NiBir Story :Bloodbath
Chapter2
"Didi, didi what's your name?"
"Nisha"
"What's your name?"
"Arjun and my sister's name is Aruna"
Arjun spoke smiling.
"Thank you" Aruna said gripping my hand.
I bent at her level and stroked her hair.
"Nisha, the couple has arrived" Shobhit told me standing at the entrance of the room.
I nodded "Shobhit you be here with them"
"Yeah"
Shobhit ran towards the children and started introducing himself energetically. I rushed towards the reception.
Shobhit, who has recently completed his 21 years of life, joined the NGO a year back. He was thrown out of his house for indulging with drugs. One of Divya's relative had led him here for rehabilitation.
He is a tough guy with an innocent heart. Yet his common sense many times bids him bye. He had once put a toddler's life into risk on his foolish accounts though he is very guilty for it. He proudly says that he never repeats his mistakes and keeps his words. His addiction had to run away from his life within six months because of his strong willpower.
Similar is my case. I too own a strong willpower. Just that his will blossomed life within him and mine...death.
"Late again today" I frowned.
"Come on Nisha, you know there's so much work nowadays" he spoke removing off his shoes.
"Nowadays Kabir? I never saw you reach home before 11 from a month!"
"You are talking as if you don't know what job means...You also work and you know that there are deadlines" he explicated.
"I very well know that Kabir but Mr. Sharma, our neighbour, also work with you...I never saw him come home this late" I complained.
"So what do you want to say?" he raised a brow.
"I want to say that why don't you switch your job? Stop working as a choreographer...just join as clerk or something like that" I explained politely.
"What! Are you mad? Dancing is my passion Nisha. I had told you before marriage itself that I can leave anything but not dancing"
And he was true. He did not leave dancing...but left me. I was pulled out of my thoughts when my little toe hit a table on my way to reception. I rubbed it hastily ducking myself to soothe my shooting pain. It did alleviate my physical hurt however, brought fresh ache that enveloped my heart. I remained frozen looking at Kabir and Priyali's boisterous laughter.
"This child's nose looks like yours," Kabir smiled eyeing a baby in the cradle.
"And his smile is same as yours" Priyali beamed.
Kabir chuckled and went near the baby and playfully clapped in front of him. The baby responded merrily.
"Aww...how cute is my child" Kabir adored.
"Aww...how cute is my child"
"Kabir, stop it now"
"Listen, you can't keep me away from my child" Kabir said authoritatively cuddling my tummy.
He added, "Papa loves you so much"
"So much that he hardly talks with you" I jeered.
"Nisha what are you saying?" he inquired slightly angry.
"I'm saying no wrong Kabir... you hardly talk with me or your child"
"You very well know Nisha that now I'm only the source of earning. You had left the job two weeks ago when you had got to know about your pregnancy" he spoke sternly.
"So you want me to continue my job?" I snapped.
He clicked his tongue in irritation.
"No Nisha, I didn't mean that. I just want to say that we are going to welcome another member in our lives. Naturally, more money will be needed and so I have to work overtime. Why are you complaining about it? It's for our baby" he reasoned.
I smirked, "You overtime for our baby?"
"What do you mean?"
"What did you think Mr. Kabir Rathore? That I'm a fool who doesn't know where her husband goes late night" I gritted my teeth in anger.
"Have you lost it Nisha?" he clenched his jaws.
"I never imagined Kabir that you and Priyali would do this to me" I grabbed his collar.
He jerked my hold over his collar and took a short breath, "Look Nisha, it's already struck 1 AM. You are three weeks pregnant and I don't want my child to suffer in any way. Go to sleep"
He left the bed where we sat against each other and advanced towards the exit of the room.
"And you're going to sleep with her?" I sneered.
He gently revolved with tightened jaws, "Shut up Nisha!"
I should have then but I didn't...leading my life in a total shutdown.
The baby's wails pulled a chain to my train of thoughts.
"Arey he started crying" Priyali frowned.
"No cries...no cries...look" Kabir clicked his fingers to the baby.
Kabir loved children and that's why he regularly used to visit Mr. Sharma's house before our marriage. Mr. Sharma was father to a little girl, Meera. She was just a year old when we got married. He used to give me examples of her and wished that our child would just be like the angel, Meera. He had already decided the name for our child. Shvaas, meaning breath, if a baby boy and Hridayaa, meaning heart, if a baby girl... Unfortunately, our child never got breaths or heart.
My eyes started to well up and color drained out of my face.
Kabir spoke to Priyali, "I think we should call someone"
Priyali nodded and they swiveled.
A moment... and everything remain suspended. Again...we three stood against each other in the deafening silence.
I blinked rapidly to engulf the water that was welled up in my eyes. Priyali looked at me blankly and I avoided her gaze. I felt a tug at my heart when Kabir's eyes collided with mine straight after three long years.
"Take her...I don't want to see her ever" Kabir spoke sternly.
"No Kabir! You can't do this to me! Kabir!" I shouted as two women surrounded me.
"Thank you officer" he said to a policeman as he shook hands with him.
"I'll not let anybody separate us! I swear I'll not let such a person live! You get that!" I yelled as I was dragged back bound by the women.
He sighed and revolved.
Getting no response, I yelped again, "Kabir!"
He stood there with stooped head back facing me.
"You're only mine! Only mine!" I shrieked at top of my voice as tears escaped my eyes.
I got a push from kids running gaily behind me landing me just a few inches away from Kabir.
Paas aaye...
Dooriyaan phir bhi kam naa hui
We looked at each other in absolute silence...silence that was speaking volumes.
Ek adhuri si hamari kahani rahi
I took a long breath and stepped back twice.
Aasmaan ko zameen, ye zaroori nahi
Jaa mile... jaa mile...
Gathering whatever rumbles of whiteness left within me, I faltered, "You... Pri... Priyali... Co... Congratulations"
And I spun instantly forcing my heavy legs to walk...walk away from him.
Ishq saccha wahi
Jisko milti nahi manzilein... manzilein...
