Mental Illnesses: A sham for desi TVShows?

Ever seen that show where the 'villain' fakes insanity to escape prison/ punishment in court? If you have, then you MAY get what I am trying to say.. Or you may not! 😆

About 3 months ago, we were introduced to Nisha's "traumatic" past. Her lifestyle had been 'changed' due to this one event. She kept it all inside her for 8 years (That's a LONG time to torture yourself). She didn't want any man to come close, touch her- and that's understandable. Anyone who's learnt a 'M' in Mental Health education would tell you she's exhibiting signs of PTSD* & anxiety disorder. Well, that is that..

Then comes in, Mr Rathore. I won't even start with his mental issues coz you will doze off by the end I am done listing his diagnoses. 😆

So Viraj appears on screen & Nisha's fears start dissipating. In the past few weeks, we saw how she realizes she is in Love.
Ahh yes, that 'enchanting ishq waala Love' from Indian TV shows which miraculously acts like Babaji ka special 'Amrit' and cures every illness mankind has ever known- from Cancer to kidney disease to PTSD??.. So, love transforms u to this extent? Correction, Nisha's one-sided love? Coz Viraj never reciprocated it, right?

It apparently improves your dressing sense too. Somehow. And it straightens your hair as well? Coz hey, we know, Curly= messy; clumsy?? And Straight hair =normal; acceptable; 'happy wala gaana'?? Right?

Here's the deal with mental health conditions- either u DO NOT introduce them at all, OR they should portray them to be real 'disorders' requiring real attention & real treatment. You got my hopes high there by introducing the counselor she was seeing, & by showing her in a session with Shekher this one time. And then, WHOOSH! All Gone?!?

One just doesn't 'move on' from their past after hearing Viraj's motivational speeches & 'bhaashans'. Sorry. It ain't 'that' easy.
So it was your mom's dream to see you in a lehenga? You don't 'give in' that easily.
Viraj kept a dress on his bed? You DO NOT slip into it like its your 2nd skin! It's NOT that simple. It's like you telling me that her PTSD & anxiety just weren't real. You don't mess with those & suddenly 'mend' Nisha to make her a "perfect woman" for your numbers & TRPs. (But you will, of course.) And just like her hair, everything will be 'straightened out' so that every 2nd guy (read Kabir) she meets would 'agree' to fall in love with her, coz hey, look, she's turned into a 'normal girl' now.. Bravo CVs..! WOW! BRAVO!

[*PTSD= Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.]

I'm not exactly qualified here...(ye disclaimer tha)
But for a moment putting aside the show...
Does psychology have THAT clear demarcations? I mean, a lot of times... Suppose I face something traumatic. Many times my brain is smart enough or should I say strong enough to tackle its own problems. It doesn't ALWAYS need serious medical help IMPOV.

Although its not the same... But I've had some traumatic experiences with fire some 8 years back(50% burns). I used to be mindblowingly paranoid about it. Was scared of even taking Aarthi or holding diyas... But well, I got over it just like that. I am a little extra careful... But then a lot of so-called normal people are too.

Of course it was too drastic in the show. But then they aren't really giving us proper time frames. Dolly ki shaadi ko kitne din hue? Problem ko surface kiye hue kitne din hue?

And mental illness I believe is the only place where they can take thoda bohot liberty. From what I've read idhar udhar se... This is the only place where a lot of unusual things happen aaalll the time. Miracles and stuff. Of course the TV channel pushes it. 😆

Jahhnavi! That was definitely a SHESSION...😆
Very nicely written.
I felt Viraj's lecture matters or changed Nisha, because it came from Viraj. If the same lecture was given by RL, it might not have had the same impact.

I have only very light and beginners level knowledge in Psychology, so I cannot go that deep into expressing my opinion on Nisha and Viraj, but I agree with one thing, PTSD is not that easy to overcome. A person definitely needs help, and yeah, if CVs are trying to cure her PTSD with Viraj's love which is unbelievable, but yes, mental illness in our TVs have always taken lots of liberty and I really expected NAUC to take a bit of reality route, which was offered, but only one session of help?? That was OTT.
TV shows take liberty with almost all medical conditions - paralysis, coma, amnesia being the most common.

Oh! D: Jahnavi, according to these soaps, everything is fair in love n war.Not to blame them, it is we who keep encouraging them to go with these craps. There's a great gap between reality and logical thinking. I wonder whether the cv's would ever read our posts to even know what's going on in the viewer's minds.

Applaud 👏
Well,I agree with the whole thing but love actually makes you blind. Apparently these Indian drama's do sometimes rush up with sicknesses or the so called PTSD,literally they don't exaggerate when they have to..
I so disliked the fact that she easily got into the dress which was brought for arthi but leaving aside everything when you only can think about " one You love while the rest world around you is muted.this is what nisha experienced, she was in mode where she could make impossible possible and she did it..
like some one mentioned earlier everything is fair in love and war.
It would have indeed been nice to watch if they had exaggerated more but alas they didn't. I hope I didn't sound like sick puppy 🤔

I know what you are talking about and I've seen people deal with it (My parents are doctors.)
And, Though I do not have proper knowledge about the subject either, when I saw Nisha wearing that white dress, I felt it was an effort on her part. You know, people had been telling her to leave her past behind and move on. Maybe she was just trying that? I know it doesn't appeal easily that she did it almost immediately when Viraj told her to. But maybe, just maybe, she wanted to take a step herself and viraj provided the trigger? Or maybe he spoke when the circumstances were perfect (again, just coincidently) ? And then, Viraj's words had the greatest effect because she was already infatuated with him. To her, he was an outsider who sensed her discomfort much more easily than her family and friends. Knowingly or unknowingly, he broke through her shell. Why did she let him in? Because he did not ask her to change. He made her feel comfortable.
I think, somewhere, she was a little upset by the fact that her family took 8 years. (I personally don't think they were wrong, she camouflages her problems well.) Maybe that is why she didn't heed their advice faster? And now she's realized that she needs to move on, and it doesn't matter who triggered the thought.

At least, that was what I tried to convince myself.
