Chapter one
The doorbell rang at the Alhuwalia house. Sweety looked up from her newspapers. She got up from the sofa, went and opened the door. Rocky came in, tired out, his bags on his back.
Sweety- Arre aa gaye tu, puttar!
She closed the door. Rocky sank into the sofa.
Sweety- Beta, change karo, main tumhaare liye kuch laati hoon. (She ruffled his hair and left for the kitchen)
When Rocky came to the dining table after changing, he hungrily grabbed the paranthas.
Sweety smiled at him. But she was also absent minded. Rocky saw her expression and his eyes widened in apprehension.
Rocky- Ma? Kya hua? Aise mere saraf se kya dekh rahe ho aap?
Sweety sat down and folded her arms. She glanced upwards and then looked at Rocky, full of concern.
Sweety- Beta. Ginny ko kya hua?
Rocky- Matlab? Hua kya?
Sweety- Pata nahi Rocky. School se laut aayi aur apne kamre mein padai ke saath baith gayi. Kuch nahi khaaya ya peena. Seedha jaake kamre main chale gaye aur baahar nahi aayi.
Rocky looked upwards thoughtfully and then picked up his glass of juice.
Sweety- Rocky. Kya tum kuch jaante ho?
Rocky- Mom. Ghabrao mat just take a chill pill. Aapki beti badi ho rahi hai! Bas!
Sweety- Accha? (She looked up and then back at Rocky) Rocky… Jaa na puttar! Apne behen ko acchi tarase samajhte ho! Ek baar baat karo uske.
Rocky- Usne kya kaha?
Sweety- Kuch nahi kaha Rocky! Bas udaas hai. Padai kar rahe hai, lekin uski khamoshi bartav dekh kar mujhe theek nahi lag rahe hai.
Rocky- Mom. Is she crying? No? Then why worry? Just chill.
Rocky got up in a chilled manner and went to his room. Sweety stood on the spot, one hand on her waist, looking up worriedly.
Sweety- Haye Mata Rani. Mere bachi ko hote jaa rahe hai.
Chapter two
Rocky quietly knocked on his sister's door, which was open. Ginny looked up from her books, her expression blank.
Rocky- Hi! Mujhe tumhaari woh kitaab lena hai!
Ginny- Kaunsa kitaab bhaiya?
Rocky- Wahi jo Rashi ne lend kiya. (He looked at her meaningfully)
Ginny looked at her brother and Rocky smiled and sat down on her bed beside her.
Ginny- Aapko pata chal gaya bhaiya?
Rocky nodded his head, looking at his sister, a small assuring smile on his face.
Ginny hugged her brother and he kept an assuring arm around her.
Rocky- C-U-A-S
Ginny looked at her brother questioningly.
Rocky- Cheer-Up-And-Smile (He smiled at her)
Ginny- Bhaiya I am sorry but I don't want to talk to Raashi (She folded her arms, her expression full of mixed feelings)
Just then the doorbell rang. The brother-sister looked at each other. Ginny looked apprehensive.
Ginny- Bhaiya… Ma mujhe daantengi!
Rocky- Main hoon na! Fikar mat karo. Main abhi aa raha hoon.
He got up and left the room. Ginny looked worried.
Sweety opened the door to see Raavi standing at the doorway with Raashi.
Raavi and Raashi- Pellipona Mausi!
Sweety- Arre tum log! Jeete raho (she hugged her nieces) Kya hua? Achaanak tum dono yaha?
Just then Rocky came down the stairs. His cousins looked at him and he at them.
Sweety observed a deep silence full of tension. Raavi looked at Raashi who looked away glaring, her arms folded.
Rocky- Arre hi Raavi, hi Raashi! Aao na upar!
Sweety- Haan haan, jao upar. Pata nahi Ginny thodi udaas hai! Tum log upar jao, mein garma garam pakoda banaake laongi!
Raavi- No thanks Mausi. Hum bas paanch minute ki andar yaha runkungi. Bas ek cchota kaam tha.
Sweety looked at the children, as Raavi and Raashi followed Rocky up the stairs. She thought to herself- Kamaal hai! Yeh bhai-behenai ke beech kya chal raha hai?
