Tanushree Kaushal: People touch my dupatta and hand

The actress has earned huge respect for her portrayal of Bebe in NaadanParindeyGharAaja.

With the viewers being spoilt for choice on TV, it takes a lot to create an impact on their minds with one's character. Actress Tanushree Kaushal has managed to do just that. She has earned a lot of fans, mainly in elders with her character Bebe in Imtiaz Punjabi's Nadaan Parindey Ghar Aaja. This also happens to be her first positive character in a career spanning over 10 years.

She says, "Imatiaz's conviction in Bebe and Umeish's vision convinced me take up the offer. This role is like that of Nargis' in Mother India. I never knew there was a Bebe in me. It's a natural extension of me and nothing is fabricated. I have played mother many times, but they were always negative. I haven't experienced motherhood in real life, but the role allowed me to experience that feeling. If I have managed to convince my audience, that's because of Imtiaz sir's conviction and narration. He explained the connection between a mother and son so well that it was a cakewalk for me to play the part." But she took time to give her nod to the role. "I have played negative roles all my life, so was a little skeptical when I was offered this. I had to leave Gustakh Dil and relocate to Chandigarh to shoot the show," she says.
The actress, who has always been seen dolled up on the screen, is quite liking her de-glam look on the show. "I am enjoying it. Isn't that surprising? This TV show is nothing like a regular daily soap. It's being shot like a movie," she states.
And how has the response been to her debut in a positive role? "I have become jagat bebe. Elders also visit the sets and touch my feet. It's a little embarrassing. I have earned so much respect because of this character. I have become very careful about how I conduct myself in public. There is a lot of responsibility associated with this character. They come and touch my dupatta and hand as a gesture of respect. I get invited to langars. This has been the turning point of my career and it's all thanks to Imtiaz sir and casting director Umeish," she concludes.
