Pregnancy depends on two things- the egg and the sperm.

Now, as far as egg is concerned, the fertile period is roughly 72 hours around the day of ovulation. That is around day 14 in a 28 day menstrual cycle.

And for the sperm, well it depends on several factors like count, morphology, motility etc etc.

Now, usually , pregnancy at first intercourse is something that is possible but usually doesn't happen because of so many ifs and buts.

Avni probably didnt get pregnant because

1) they did not consummate at all

2) they did but were responsible - used protection

3) avni was not on the correct day of her cycle

4) Neil actually is nakabil. We call it infertile/impotent

5) nothing is wrong with anyone but the sperm did not meet the egg. This is in God's hand

6) she did get pregnant but lost the child because of lack of implantation or placenta formation.

7) her progesterone did not rise enough for continuation of pregnancy. Or her tubes are blocked or in short Avni is nakabil

I can think of these, there might be several other reasons.

One more thing, age of sperm usually does not matter. Charlie chaplin fathered his last child when he was 70. Just saying.
