"Yeh kya ho raha hai mujhe? Jo mein chahathi thi woh toh ho gayi. Phir yeh becheni kyun hai mere dil mein?" Avni was lost in a dilemma created by her own heart.
She was packing her bags to leave the Khanna House once and for all when Neil entered the room. He gave a tired look to Avni who glanced at him from behind the opened wardrobe doors. She stood there staring at him. Staring at his dark brown orbs. His eyes. They were her weakness, affecting her since the day she noticed them. The charm that he radiates is inexplicable. Whenever they shared an eyelock Avni used to get struck by some magic. His magic. And this time was no exception. She stood like that for several minutes until Neil approached her and snapped his fingers at her.
N: Kya hua hai wifey? Oh I mean Avni.
A faint smile followed by a sigh curved his lips with the last line. It sort of spoke the heartache he was going through upon realizing that this is never going to happen ever again. He won't be able to call her "wifey" ever again. She won't be here in this room with him after today. He used to wake up to an empty bed every morning but he knew his wifey was somewhere in the house. It won't be the same again. The bed will remain forever empty with no hope of anyone returning to it the next night. The thought made him cringe. He bit his lip and put his tightened fists inside the pockets of his sweatpants.
A: Kuch nahi. Maa ki yaha jaana hai toh packing kar rahi hoon.
Neil nodded in understanding. How was he supposed to stop her? Does he have the right to prevent her from going? He already lost someone so close to his heart. Could he afford to lose another special someone too? Or is she even that special to him?
Avni's heart was drowning in a similar turmoil. She wasn't sure of what she wanted. Her mind was content with all the things ending well but her heart was restless. As if saying "It is not the end Avni. Understand me for once!"
After moments of deep silence, being done with packing, Avni came and stood beside Neil who was looking outside the window into the night sky.
N: Woh taare dhek rahi ho na Avni? Woh bhi kuch din ke liye hi rehete hai. Kuch saal tak rehete hai. Kabhi na kabhi toh unhe bhi jaana padta hai. Kuch bhi hamesha ke liye nahi reheta. haina?
Avni was confused as to why he was talking about stars all of a sudden.
A: Haan Neil. Par ye kyun kaha tumne?
N: Kuch nahi. Bas aise. Tum jaa rahi ho?
Avni nodded a yes and picked up her bags.
