Avneil: Not the typical indian serial couple

One thing I have noticed about Avneil, that makes them different from other couples on indian serials is the dynamics between them.

In every indian show, you see the female lead being self-righteous, preachy and acting as a guide for the male lead, pointing out his faults and stopping him from taking wrong steps. Here, Avneil are the complete reverse of other couples.

Instead of Avni being the moral guide for Neil, and telling him what he is doing is wrong, it is Neil who is stopping Avni from taking any wrong steps by wanting to guide her on the right path through tough situations.

The male leads typically tend to be short-tempered, impulsive and ignorant, as they turn a death ear to their wife's advice in indian serials, but here, we have Avni who is emotional and impulsive. So instead of the female lead, it is the male lead who doesn't like the female leads approach to situations and finds the female lead as rash, thoughtless and in need of guidance.

Avni is quite hot-tempered if we think about it, but Neil is relatively level-headed and calm, or at least he knows when and how to act accordingly. He is able to keep his emotions intact and doesn't take rash decisions, which is quite in contrast to Avni.

This is why I think they will make an interesting married couple that will break the mundane cycle of an impulsive and short-tempered husband being treated like a baby by his more mature and calm wife, who preaches him about wrong and right and tries to save him when his stupidity and rash thinking complicates things. We will hopefully not have to put up with the same rubbish we see other wives and husbands do in indian serials in naamkarann, if the cv's stick to the way the characters have been graphed.

You are absolutely right! it is this contrasting dynamics between them that I love so much! I also like how Neel asked all the right questions to Avni! He did not question her character or call her a gold digger! He simply qusetioned her actions and called her selfish because that is how he percieves the situation and I really like that Neel is not an MCP angry young man as Television is so full of them these days!
I Love Avni too! She is so straighforward and a WYSWYG kind of person! It's not that Avni is not Morally inclined but it's just that her morals are different, she makes her own and goes by her conscience and sometimes even allows herself to go against her conscience to achieve what she believes is necessary(Like this whole bride swap, she went ahead with it against her better judgement just to stop Aman from leaving India).

Wow bang on post.
Naamkarann is a show which is league apart from what is being shown on TV right now. All the characters here are to some extent flawed including the leads which makes it very realistic and interesting.

For a change we shall see the male lead changing or reforming his betterhalf. Its not gonna be a easy journey but will surely be worth watching..

Hope the writers maintain the essence of the characters. Good to see a mother like Neela who can go to any extent for her daughter.

Fully agree with you. Avni is the one who is hot tempered and she has logical reason to be the way she is. Neil is the one who has the ability to guide her and show her right path. The best thing neither Neil nor Avni are perfect people in the universe lol. They have grey aspects to their personality which I like.
Avni Neil are amazing and i hope they stay like this.

Hi I am new to this forum. Just started to watch Namakaran. I knew Aditi Rathore from her EDKV days and I have a few people I know on Twitter who like Zain from his previous show and also a few who like AviNeil. I liked what I saw of the pairing in scenes they upload, so just started to watch post leap episodes on Hotstar. I am an overseas viewer anyway.

I have seen quite a few Indian TV shows now, since my first one IPK 6 years ago. I agree with TM that most male leads are shown as impulsive hot-tempered MCP's that have to be "saved" from themselves by their more level-headed and Mahaan wives. Most of the time they sacrifice themselves for their husband's or his family's betterment etc. Fed up of such dynamics.

So to see this guy Neil who is very confident, but not an MCP, who's got swagger but not arrogant, is level headed and not impulsive is SO refreshing. Avni too is not a goody two shoes female lead, who talks big, but in the end acts like a typical good girl and always sacrificing etc. I am still catching up to the story, but I saw some of the latest episodes where she keeps the fast etc. But I didnt get the impression she was doing it to be a goody two shoes. She was just trying to do what Neil's grandmother wanted in good faith. Like her Mom told her she is married to Neil and as long as she is married, she needs to play her part and do her duty towards his family as well. I totally respect her for trying. That's not being Mahaan, that is just being respectful.

Neil is super cool, and Avni is anything but perfect, so I am loving this combination. Not to mention they look damned hot together. So I am in. Hope to catch up to the episodes soon and join in the discussions.
