The blinks and squeeze to know by
The moment he stood there, he knew something was not right.
The usual boisterous sound and jolly buzz of the cafe was not to be heard.
There was indeed a few customers milling around but the usual enthusiastic man who would sweep you like a tornado upon entry was nowhere to be seen.
Where was Ali?
The noodle headed brother like DD is familiarised calling on every previous visit.
There was not a glimpse of those mischievous hazel eyes which had been sheeted with moisture on their last encounter.
He knew everything was not right between them after what happened few months back ago which seemed more like many eons to him.
Maybe he should have waited like she told, he knew it was hard for him.
After all to Ali at first he was engaged to the member of a family who murdered his beloved sweetheart and now he was married to one among them, albeit on different circumstances.
So the knowledge that maybe like Riya suggested, it will take more time to heal these wounds and eventually he maybe able to embrace his friend again.
With that thought in mind, he walked back to the car where his pregnant wife sat in.
They were on their way to inform their respective mothers about the impending blessing to visit them soon in few months.
As he neared the car she looked at him,
and like always she read the dismay in his eyes easily.
She knew for Ali to come around it will take time but her stubborn husband as usual was not ready to accept defeat.
So on each weekend he will visit the cafe, have a tea and come back home dejected at being not able to see his friend.
Even she longed to get blink of those curly hair but knew coming in front of Ali will only torment him more and the glare of defeat will shine more profoundly.
The only assurance being he had a good friend now to lean on and with time maybe more than a companion, if his previous words about soul mates are any indication.
With that knowledge she looked at her husband of six months who still sometimes had the bouts of insecurity and fear of losing someone dear to him which sometimes could be even played out in the form of nightmares, she being the main lead in it often.
She watched him make a big fuzz of her seat belt ensuring it's properly in place when in the first place she had not taken it of and enquire after he comfort, only then did he secure his own seat belt.
Avni who shredded her previous charade of Ananya after getting adequate justice for the crimes against her blood family, took her husband's hand in hers and squeezed in comfort.
Their words more often where at angle with their actions like always before yet her gentle assurance now through one little gesture made him calm like no thousand letters could. With a small squeeze in return, he started to get ready for the small journey to his parents home and the thought of facing his mother's dramatic episode after the pregnancy revelation, made him chuckle.
Thus containing the picture in his mind Neil looked at his wife Avni once again, sharing a conspiratorial smile concluding she was thinking the same thing and started the engine.
Ali took her hands in his which she squeezed in warmth.
Maybe he won't have to hide the next time his friend came,
it seems the wounds are not as raw as before.
Even though there are some scars, a few more scabs may make it possible.
Looking at her who stood patiently by him this all months,
never pushing for more than companionship even though he knew she wanted more.
She was not the old materialistic girl who lived in the clouds and he knew in some way she was the connecting bridge between them all even in parted terms,
her sisterhood and friendship with Avni being one of the reason.
Avni, his first love will be always special to him and
how he longed to mend their old intimacy.
Even though she was not anymore his to call as more than a friend,
he was grateful to her now feeling the warmth in his fingertips.
It was time to return her feelings, something he yearned to share with a grant gesture.
Looking at Riya's eyes which gazed into his,
Ali knew the wounds will heal and with that knowledge his melted hazels twinkled once again.
A/N:
Hi, my writting style has been ever evolving due to some uncharacteristic reason for few months and therefore you may encounter a difficulty while reading. Hence please do bear the mistakes and let me take the opportunity to say this had been only a victim of my unusual bouts of boredom. Still do leave a comment or two about it :)
