Hello everyone,
I wrote this OS ages ago but I did not have the guts to post it; Claire and Ash gave me the confidence to post this (Thank you guys)
Depending on the feedback I get, I might turn this into an FF (Thanks Claire and Ash for the encouragement)

How could she have thought that he could ever do anything to hurt her? The Mahir who had stood by her through everything; the Mahir who had raced to help her whenever she was in trouble. The Mahir whose love was so selfless it made her choke with emotion even thinking about it. The Mahir who loved her with such fierceness; who made her forget everything she had been before him. This Mahir who looked at her with such desperately hopeful eyes everyday. How could she have believed that this incredible man, with his innate gentleness could hurt anyone?
He smiled at Kuhu and Bella knew without a doubt how wrong she had been.
Bella turned to Kuhu and gave her a hug. " Little Ruhi is our responsibility now; mine and Mahirji's; both he and I will look after you and the baby. Please don't worry"
Kuhu's face lit up with emotion and she looked at Mahir with tears running down her face and he knew he was never letting Bella go. He would do anything to show her what she was to him. He would follow her to the ends of the earth.
Bella turned back to look at him, and smiled at him.
I love you so much, he mouthed to her. He knew Bella would understand that Kuhu and Ruhi had no one but them now. Bella, his sister and her baby were his only family now.
She held his gaze as events of the past day went through her head. His father had been murdered; Kuhu was in hospital and they had to deliver Ruhi by caesarean. Kuhu had lost a lot of blood during the operation. Mahir's thoughts went back to how they had found Kuhu, lying in a pool of blood and his heart stopped. He remembered Kuhu going completely limp and remembered calling the ambulance and bringing her here.

It wasn't that Bella hadn't seen Mahirji cry. It was just that she had never seen him fall apart like this. When the nurses had wheeled Kuhu into the OR, Mahirji had slumped to the ground next to her and wept like a baby. He had cried out all his pent up emotions. He shook with such pain, Bella's heart had broken. The pain of being away from her; the pain of losing his father; the pain of not knowing who his mother had really been and the fear that his niece would never know her parents.
Hours later, a doctor had up to them, "we've stopped the bleeding, but the next few hours are critical. You can see her as soon as she is settled into the room. The baby is fine. You can see her now if you wish."
The moment the doctor left, Mahir enveloped her in a hug and dug his face into her shoulder. She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him closer, "its going to be fine. Kuhu will be fine. And you have a niece. A little baby girl to call you mamu." He smiled but did not pull away and stayed in her arms for a long time, soaking up everything she was giving him. She wondered how he found the courage to put himself out in front of her like this, after all he had been through; after knowing all the truth. She vowed never to push him away, never to hurt him, to protect him from every harm that came his way.

Bella watched through the glass window in the nursery as her Mahirji in his impeccably tailored suit, covered in a blue apron and his hair in a cap, held his tiny niece in his arms. Bella was not sure how she felt in this moment. Her beautiful Mahirji with his baby niece in his arms, staring at the tiny baby with such wonderment and mumbling words at her. He turned to look at her and her heart stuttered and sparks shot into her belly. He held her up so Bella could get a better look and then turned her back to himself and swayed her back and forth.
"Its a beautiful sight, isnt't it?, Kuhu whispered into her ear and Bella quickly wiped the tears that had flown onto her cheeks and turned to look at Kuhu.
"Bhai's love is so fierce and consuming Bella. He holds on to the people he loves and just does not let go. But his love is not for everyone. It can be so overwhelming that some people might turn it away."
Bella knew how overwhelming her Mahirji's love was. One year with him and she knew she could never be anyone else's. She turned back to look at her husband and the tiny baby in his arms, not for a moment concealing how much love there was in her heart for him. She stood there as he rocked the baby to sleep and then handed her to the nurse and walked towards her.

"Bella, we need to talk", he said looking at her. Bella smiled at him and he found it difficult to take his eyes off her. Bella blushed as Mahir watched the colour fill her cheeks, wanting to trace it over her face with his fingers, his lips.
"How's your niece?" Bella asked him as he struggled to bring his mind back to what he wanted to say to her
"Perfect. She is perfect", his voice broke as he said it and Bella put her hand on his cheek.
"Bella, thank you for saving her. How can I ever thank you?" he asked.
"Mahirji, those two are my family also. I am sorry I couldn't save Dad. I am so sorry...I...", she said.
"Bella, listen to me carefully...I know that Ma will not give up...we have to leave...we cannot be here...I cannot lose anyone else...too many people have died...AND I WILL NOT ARGUE OVER THIS"
Bella looked into his eyes, she could see that he knew how naive he was being.
"I know about the temple grounds and the old haveli Mahir. I know you have given them to me. I hope you know that I trusted what you had told me; that you would never knock it down."
Mahir pulled her towards him "I am sorry for everything that has happened. For what dad did, for what my m..m...mo..mother did. I cannot undo anything but this is a start." Mahir's voice broke when he mentioned Sumi. He still had not come to terms with the fact that she was not really his mother and had not been for a long time.
Bella stared at him. Why did her husband think any of this was his fault. Maybe, maybe the only way to save her family was to let them go. Mahirji could go with his sister and his niece and she would stay back and fight. Had this ever been his battle?Hadn't he just been dragged into it because he had made the mistake of falling in love with her. She stepped back from him as she held his gaze. He held her hand and walked closer to her his eyes not leaving hers.
"NO. DON'T YOU DARE! I know what you are thinking. If you think i will let you leave me and walk away then you are wrong. I am not letting you go anywhere. We will go together. I am never ever leaving your side. EVER"
Bella turned and walked towards the elevator. Not just walked, almost ran, but he caught up with her. "Bella don't you dare walk away."
The elevator doors opened and she walked in as he followed her. "Why don't you understand Mahirji. I cannot put you in harm's way. I may have defeated Sumi this time but she will be back.
He reached behind her and pushed a button and the elevator stopped. He held her then "Don't ever think that I will leave your side. We are in this together."
She could hear the pain and desperation in his voice. She shook her head. Did she think she could live without him? She would die the moment he left.
She loved him so much. He was who she had waited for all her life. Mahadev's answer to all her prayers.
She shut her eyes, and the tears she had held back spilled onto her cheeks. He leaned over and kissed her eye lids and her cheeks. He had craved for her for so long. His lips found hers and he forgot to breathe, getting his will to live from their closeness. He needed her; needed to gain back everything he had ever lost from the love she infused into him. When she pulled away, he saw his need reflected in her eyes and he bent back to her , never wanting to refuse her anything. She dug his fingers into his hair and whispered in his ear "You are my everything Mahirji. If something ever happened to you I would die too. Please do as I ask. Please take them and go. Go far away. When this fight ends, I will come to you. Do not worry about me. I will be fine. "
A cold hand gripped at his heart. The fear that she would leave him making it difficult to breathe.
He pulled her closer, determined to change her mind, and pushed the button again as the elevator started again. They would have to formulate a plan. No way was he going anywhere without his wife.
