That would be highly unusual here! Girls of that age are usually studying still, post graduate work, or building their careers, traveling etc. Women usually live on their own for a few years before settling down. Does that ever happen in India?

Sita, my sister is a physician, doing a sub specialty ,28 and unmarried! She's not even concerned, and neither are my parents!! 😉

My sister also says most of her physician colleagues are also unmarried at her hospital, though a few did meet at medical school and married after graduation ! I guess all the night duty and weekend calls don't allow for too much romance ! 😉

Interesting point! I guess the real issue here is the prevalence of arranged marriages in India. Since parents have the responsibility of finding a suitable spouse then the sooner the better would be their point of view. In the west, the decisions are made by the individual so they can take their time if they wish! But anywhere and at anytime , "it is difficult to get good boys!" 😆

It becomes an issue once someone wants to marry of his/ her own choice..but now many parents have become receptive for this..
parents search for groom or brides within their caste only in case of arranged marriages..

Very much so...And as I said,I would prefer if girl get married quite early and then continue with their studies/career...there are so many working women here..and so many girls pursuing education after marriage also. That way Kerala is better than many other S.Indian states.

But as I said before,a couple get consultation for infertility only after a few years have passed after marriage..and by then if the woman is above 32-34...then it compromises her fertility potential very much..Also,the chances of having mentally retarded children also increases if the woman is more than 35.Why take all that risk?
And the incidence of infertility is so much on the rise that there is every cause to be alarmed.

And not everyone can afford surrogacy,In virto fertilization, and other expensive treatments.

yes gotra issue is there ,but it is not as severe an issue as a person of different caste..Personally I dont mind about the caste, but this traditional puja which we have been continuing since generations cannot be discontinued..that is my only concern.!!!

I think what's fascinating is that neither of us on either side of the world would have it any other way! I couldn't ever imagine agreeing to my parents choosing a partner for me , and I imagine you would never imagine your parents NOT choosing one for you!

That's what makes our word so interesting and exciting! We each so many different life experiences, and expectations , yet we can bond over a show like NBT!!
