Its hard to tell who sings it better, Kishore or Himesh?

No doubt Himmesh sang it better than Kishore. Even Mika can sing this song better than Kishore.

No you are not giving enough credit to Kishore. He is a legend. Mika is nowhere near a legend and can't sing anywhere near the level of Kishore Kumar. I think Himesh did full justice to the remake of the song. Only a legend can to justice to a legend's work. Not Mika.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion. But how is Kishore Kumar not a universal singer? What makes a universal singer?

I wouldn't say Himesh is a thousand times better singer than Kishore. That's going too far.
But maybe both are a thousand times better than Mika.

Well, unfortunately i beleive one of my fav. singers might just exit this competition because of wrong song selection. I feel this song was strictly situational and is best enjoyed while watching the film. Some portions seem like a dialogue rather than a song. Granted its a difficult song to render because of these things, however it doesnt make me want to give any more than 7 marks. The song fails to make much impact unless i watch the video along with it. So, with a heavy heart i give Shaan a 7 and apologise to his fans for the same(am myself 1 of dem😭) To improve our mood lets njoy dis peppy duet of Shaan wid KK

According to your own definition Universal singer is the one win atleat three major awards in a year. I dont think he did that. If you have other definition then let me know.
