Annuji you plz just tell me how you are judging the singing only and not the song when you talk about the degree of difficulty. Do you feel the singer should improvise and deliberately make a simple song sound more difficult. I think if a singer does complete justice to a straight forward simple song then also he should get 10(as per the rules) And i have said all along that i find it impossible to stick to the rules while judging. Am nowhere complaining about the judges, just pointing out their double standards in this regard(No offence intended and apologise if someone still gets offended by my choice of words) . As you will find i had supported the judges in my last post saying that all things being judged are critical(though not in the rules). Consider when i say i dont like the song, its a combination of boring lyrics, others could have sung it better and less degree of difficulty and 1 mark cut for all 3. So, 7. Thanx The fact that i am not writing these things in PM is that I want to have a healthy discussion on this issue and believe that this is an appropriate forum to get multiple views on the same.

@saq

first let me clear what I said

As an audience member you are free to judge on whatever basis u prefer but the guidelines are to score the singing (and not to score the singer or the song) which I think you have done so thanks!

By that I meant that think you HAVE adhered to the guidelines 😊

Now on to your query about how to judge. The rules are clear - judge the singing. I have tried to judge the singing always, as have the other judges. We all have our disagreements and our own way of scoring, but we always score on the basis of quality of singing. We don't ever take into account howmuch we like the song. For example, I think 'O Soniyo' is a boring song but I still gave Sonu a 9 or 10 for it, because the singing was very difficult but he did it excellently. On the other hand, 'Pichhle Paanch Dino Mein' from Rock On is a song Ireally like, burI wouldn't give the singing any more than 4 points.

Sorry i got confused there. But, in very simple terms i would say the music in rock on was superb, lyrics were innovative, though a little absurd. If i am judging pichle saat dino mein, i would give it about 8 because i like the song overall, yet feel the singing isnt great and could have been better. but, in a song like Soniyo, i enjoy the music, i love the feel and will just have to give it 10. Sadly, in this particular song of Udit ji, i thought lyrics were ordinary, singing was decent, nothing exceptional, overall impact was not great, i wouldnt like to hear it agin and again. So, couldnt give more than 7.
The simple fact is you people have good knowledge of music and are able to probably pick out small nitty gritties and can judge accordingly whereas I have to rely mostly on pure likeability factor which in a way encompasses things like(voice quality, lyrics, music, feel etc.) but fails to make out things like scale, low notes, degree of difficulty, harkats etc. So, to each his own. You have it a lot tougher than me and you all r doing gr8👏👏👏👏(1 for each 1 of u) and special 👏👏👏👏👏 for risingabove

Narayan Narayan!

In my eyes, the best male voice quality in Hindi film music after Mohd Rafi is possessed by Udit Narayan. Kya gehraai hai iss aawaaz mein, Kya sachchai iss andaaz mein... Points granted!

I loved the feel and energy he brought into the song. The tune is not particularly difficult, though.

Extra credit for the lovely 'ho ho aa aa' style aalaap. His aakaar was flawless! Points!

It's not an easy thing to salvage a substandard composition such as this (the arrangements don't help much either!). But it was not as difficult as Dard-e-Disco or Kal Ho Na Ho, so it's a 7.5 from me.

WIll round that up to 8 out of 10!
