Many say and doubt their credentials as singers but accept or not even A.R.Rahman is giving songs to Mohit,Benny Dayal,Rashid Ali and many more and they are delivering superhit songs.
Mika has also delivered many superhit songs.
Mohit and many doesnt have any formal education of music but still they are doing very well.
Do you think formal education in music is necessary to be a successfull singer?

Formal education is not necessary to be a successful playback singer. Kishore Kumar, KK and Sunidhi Chauhan have no formal training in music, for example. Personally, I prefer singers with a formal education because they can be more versatile and can do the more classical filmi songs too. I really like the singers of today - we have a mix of Indian and Western, raw and polished voices.

But i can't tolerate out of key voices like HR and Aatif Aslam. You can't be a singer just like that. Untrained singers like Kishoreda and KK and Sunidhi became great because they have practised a lot and done a lot of vocal exercise, albeit without 'formal' guidance.

So I guess what Im saying is, a singer must train - formally or informally - to be good at singing. I haven't heard enough of any of the new singers to judge them, but I wouldn't discount any singer coz of their lack of formal education.

Well this is the reason why our music has degraded from past years. The success of these singers is always short-lived unless you bring in new innovations in your voice.
Compare that to classically trained singers like Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam whose success have lasted for more than a decade.
New voices is becoming the trend today. Nowadays even directors and actors are chipping in. Farhan Akhtar, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan have all done playback singing. And on top of all this the songs also become big hits. No wonder our talented singers don't get a chance to become playback singers.
Technology is playing a big part in ruining our music industry. Nowadays so many softwares are being used that the real voice of a singer is hidden. Somewhere I feel our music directors are also to be blamed for. The audience will eat only the food which they are served.

Very nicely said. At present times the term EVERGREEN SONG is not there.Music comes and we hear for some days and forget it.

Exactly. Another reason for the degradation is Westernization. Increasing use of English in Hindi songs is becoming common these days. Almost every album is accompanied by remixes which will make even Altaaf Raja sound like a International star.
The thinking has to change. When a talent music composer like Himesh Reshammiya says that 'kahan se laye Lata aur Asha' and tells singers to focus on new age era songs which suit their voices more then I am sorry our music will never reach the height it attained in the era of Rafi Saab and Kishore Da.

One more thing is that in older times there were only a few singers and MD's had no option.
But at present there are 100 of singers availaible to sing songs.

Too bad olden days didn't have reality shows. 😊
But at least we got quality music to hear.
Competition has increased no doubt but there is no substitute for hard word. 😊

Mika, Mohit and all those guys are good singers. Listen to their hit songs and you will know why they are getting so many songs. Even in Stardust today, there were 2 nominations for Mohit in singing and that included Masakalli .. dont say that Masakalli is a bad song. 😆

I also agree Mohit is a good singer ( cant say same bout Mika) but we already hve more than whether the awards make somone good singer or not.
