Karz remake to retain three songs from the original

Subhash K Jha, Indo-Asian News Service
Mumbai, October 25, 2007
First Published: 07:01 IST(26/10/2007)

Satish Kaushik's version of Karz will retain three of Laxmikant-Pyarelal's songs, namely Dard-e-Dil, Om Shanti Om and the theme song Ek Haseena Thi.

This gives Himesh Reshammiya, who is composing the music as well as playing the main lead, a chance to pay homage to his idols.

Reshammiya, who sees himself as LP's inheritor, insisted on having Dard-e-dil in the movie as it is one of his all-time favourites.

"But even the adapted songs will be interpreted in a new way. They'll be sung and redesigned by Reshammiya. And just as in the original, the theme Ek Hasina Thi will be used in the background throughout my film," Kaushik told IANS.

The poor fate of Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay remake notwithstanding, the extended spell of remakes continues. Kaushik is halfway through the scripting of the film.

"My remake will be very different from Subhash Ghai's film. It's of course being done with Reshammiya's personality in mind. My Karz will highlight the protagonist's role as a rock star. I don't want to focus that much on the reincarnation theme. I've done many remakes earlier. Does my Tere Naam look anything like the original Telugu film?"

Four composers for WELCOME
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------
November 15, 2007 1:22:18 PM IST
Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network

Promotion of WELCOME has begun with full gusto and producer Firoz Nadiadwala is going all out to ensure that Akshay Kumar says good bye to 2007 with a smile after the release of this Anees Bazmee directed film.

Talkie promos are being mixed quite well with the song promos and what is noticeable is the fact that the film has as many as four composers working on it. While Sajid-Wajid as a team, fresh from the success of PARTNER have created the title song, Himesh Reshammiya and Anand Raaj Anand have also contributed with two and three songs respectively.

Touted to be a commercial massy entertainer, the music is expected to arrive at stands around coming weekend.
