How did I forget this? This should have been top of the list... although the praise is for the rainy night he met her, it's made memorable because of her! What lyrics by Sahir! One of the most exquisite songs in Raag Yaman imo.

Although this song is meant to be sardonic - it's directed at Shammi who DK is clearly not interested in but he's meant to praise her beauty so he does, I'm still posting it because the lyrics are filled with praise.

He is willing to pledge the wind, the night, the moonlight for one single 'act of performance' by her. Ada means more like a style or an attitude that is usually put on and not genuine, so there right there begins his subtle mocking.

And 'mujhe kyon na ho teri aarzoo. teri justajoo mein bahar hai' is directed at himself and the conditioning by society. She clearly stands for eveything that's desirable in a woman, so why wouldn't he when longing for her would only mean 'good things' (bahar/ spring) for him?

What a great song!

Madan Mohan loved this tune and had openly expressed his admiration for Sajjad and his composition. When confronted he also admitted he loved the tune so much and was inspired by it and had to use it when he composed Tujhe kya sunaoon.

There have been other cases where the original tune has been hotly contested - like Ye mera deewanapan hai and dekh hume aawaaz na dena - both movies came out in 1958 and both MDs Shankar- Jaikishan and C. Ramchandra claimed their tunes were original. S.D. Burman’s Thandi hawayein has been ‘copied’ so many times. I remember doing a post on it but Roshan’s Rahein na rahein hum is one that comes immediately to mind.

I don’t call these blatant copies. They were inspired - sure. About Anu Mallk - I don’t want to say anything.

Keep saying more, i would love to listen as Anu himself use the word " inspire" ( than copy)many times on social media.

Helllluuuuu smiley27smiley31

I know I've rarely been here but this semester was such a rollercoaster I was sleeping 3 hours out of 24. Hectic as hell. Currently I'm home for a break and have a flight in a week.

I LOVE this song. Rafi has such a warming vibe.
