| During the Rockstars tour, Daler Mehndi caused embarrassment to the on-stage performers and the organisers of the show held in Los Angeles on May 27.
The incident took place while Salman Khan, Zayed Khan and Shahid Kapoor were performing to the title track of Rang De Basanti (Mehndi's rendition), the Bhangra king barged on the stage and started dancing with the three heroes.
The trio was caught unawares as this was not part of the act. But before they could react, the organisers swept into action by rushing on the stage and escorting Daler off. Our source who was present at the show says, "The organisers had to tell him to get out from the stage."
| | | Hey daler, the exit's that way: Salman Khan | What exactly happened? The eyewitness elaborates, "Daler was not a part of the original script. He burst on the stage out of nowhere. For a while, the three heroes almost froze in their steps.
Salman was quite annoyed by Daler's intervention. If he hadn't been pulled away, he wouldn't have stopped; he appeared very excited and seemed to be enjoying himself.
If he'd been allowed to continue, he would've ruined the full RDB act by Salman, Zayed and Shahid."
Joining the act
But what was Daler doing with the troupe if he wasn't part of the Rockstars? Our source explains, "Daler was doing a show in the city the following day, with the same organisers and so he was present backstage."
About what made him act so out of character, there are many versions. "Either he got carried away in the mood of the show since they were dancing to his song, or he was trying to extract free publicity, or maybe he was in an inebriated state."
However, Daler says none of that is true.
The singer says, "The sponsors signalled to me to join the performers. Nobody can go backstage unless and until he is officially granted permission. The security was so tight."
Daler says that his sudden entry was a well-planned move by the organisers, "Nobody knew about my entry except the sponsors. I went and embraced Salman, stood for a while and came down.
Salman was shocked to see me. I could see that on his face. The crowd was equally shocked if not more. Nobody knew about my entry except me," he says.
Daler claimed that the sponsors for the LA show —Jotwani, Mehta and Bhalla — had sent him a special invitation to attend the Rockstar concert.
"I had a show with the same sponsors, the very next day. In fact, I reached the venue just four or five minutes before the RDB number started," he says.
Denying that he was made to leave the stage with stern orders, so that Salman, Zayed and Shahid could complete the number, Daler concludes, "I had not gone zabardasti on the podium. So why would anybody do zabardasti with me?" |
