F or about two years, Sonu Nigam had been working on his next private album, and it's now complete. According to a source, names of several eminent lyricists were dis- cussed in the course of finalising the team, from Gulzar to Prasoon Joshi. Nigam eventually settled for Ajay Jhingran, who had penned the lyrics for his earlier two albums, Sanskar and Mausam, in which the Bujuria number is still remembered. Jhigran, from the Bijnor gha- rana of UP, is a disciple of poet Neeraj, besides being a trained singer. The music has been com- posed by Deepak Pandit, who used to play the violin for Jagjit Singh. Jhingran said, "On August 14 last year, around 11.30 in the night, Sonuji called me to ask if I still write good lyrics. I replied that if I get a chance, I could prove myself all over again to him. He asked to meet up the next day." According to the lyricist,"It's a very difficult album which brings back the extensive use of Hindi in the lyrics. Most lyricists have overused words like Jaaneman, jaanejigar, afreen and so on. This album has a prefect blend of Hin- di and Urdu." Confirming that he was chosen over other lyricists like Gulzar and Prasoon Joshi, Jhingran says, "That's Sonu's choice. We've recorded the last song recently.I can assure you that the album is amazing ,you'll be pleasantly sur- prised by its freshness." Nigam is away in Singapore for a concert with Asha Bhosale and was unavailable for comment.
