Today is the Senior Citizens Day !!!

It is the day when we tell the senior citizens how invaluable they are to us and to the society .

When we talk about senior citizens , we immediately remember our grandparents ! Yes, whether it is dada daadi or nana naani, they cannot be compared to anyone at all. They are simply the best !!!

Grandparents adore you like anything. They pamper you to bits, they raise you to the skies, they make you feel special in every possible way!!! It does not matter whether you live in the same house or in different cities, but the minute you talk to them, the distance disappears. When they were younger and you were younger too, it is they who filled your world with love, colors, beauty, companionship and confidence. Even before you wished for anything, they fulfilled it. Not for a moment they made you feel lonely. Anytime you wanted to share anything or wanted to talk, even when busy they always made the time to listen to you in rapt attention. When you wished to play and all were busy in chores, it was your grandfathers who became your game partners. When you felt tired to eat, it was your granma who fed you. When you felt cranky it was them who soothed your nerves. When you were ill, they sat up night after night looking after you.

Anytime you did something good, they cheered and celebrated it as if you won a Olympic medal !! Everytime you faced a failure, big or small, they were beside you silently sharing the pain and in subtle ways boosting your morale and rebuilding your confidence. It was your grandparents who regaled you with stories and in each of those stories laid a hidden message , a message that helped in building your personality. They showered all their love on you and never asked for anything in return.

Today when you are older, they are older too. Today, they can't work or be as agile as they used to be before. They love you still just the way they did then, they want to talk and share your world but today your world has broadened too much and you don't have enough time in there to give them. It's not that you stopped loving them or something, but somehow your daily schedules and your broadened world has left you with very little time in hand. They paid undivided attention to your every needs, but somehow today you don't have the patience in your busy schedule to meet theirs.

They fulfilled every little wish of yours then, you remember to wish them too and inquire about their health, that's all. Today besides the aches and pains of old age, they also have another illness - it is loneliness. They have all the time ion the world, but no one to share it with. No one has enough time to listen to their stories, or meet their childish tantrums or make them feel wanted or cherished by giving them undivided attention..

We all can do better then a cursory hug or a "hi ,how are you". We can actually spend some quality time with them and make them happy. They won't ask for it, but we can do it by ourselves ,right ?

Today in this thread let us reminicise our golden moments with our grandparents. Please tell us what is the importance of your grandparents in your lives ? Do you spend time with them ? What do you usually do to make them feel cherished ?

Our grandparents contribution is invaluable in our lives, there's no doubt about that, but we should not tell them this just on this day. We should tell them this everyday. They make us feel special so why not us reciprocate the same . Respect them, love them, value them, cherish them and pamper them like never before.

Best Regards

My paternal grand mother has played a very important role in my life. From when I was a child, she was the one who brought me up.. More than my mother, it was my grand mother who was close to me as she gave me all the love and affection.. Even after loosing my grand father, she kept the will power strong and supported me all alone.. I will always owe a lot to her..

Coming to my paternal grand father, who is no more - I was put under medication and was advised not to take salt for an year.. I was jus 3 yrs old then and used to eat with my grand father.. Just because I was asked not to take salt, he too did not take salt...

My grand parents, have been very important part of my life!!

Beautiful post Adi bhai 👏 I do not have very strong memories of my grand parents but I know that my maternal grandmother loves me a lot and that at the age of 80 also she is the one who loves me the most.. I dont have both grandfathers I have lost them around ten years back. I remember my Nanaji being very strict and my dadaji not talking much. So the only memories I have are of my grandmothers.

Very good post Adi....
I am very close to my Naniji. I spent good 10 days with her in my recent India trip. She is the one who taught me all my basic habits and from morning when I wake up to the time I go to bed, I follow certain things that she taught me to do.......
I have a feeling that I won't meet her again coz she is too old and fragile. But I am happy that my 4 year old son developed a great rapport with my Naniji and I still have the same bond with her as I had 20 years ago.....
We should all take out some time from our busy lives to call our grandparents and tell them our achievements. Our calls really make their day and they keep on talking about it for days and months!!!!
Don't igonore your grandparents.........show them that you care!!!

Beautiful post, Adi..

Sadly I was not fortunate enough to spend time with my paternal grandparents because of their early demises..
My maternal grandmother can be the best of buddies and has an amazing sense of humor when she is at it while at other times she is this strict teacher who is always there to provide guidance and teach me the reality behind the mask that this world could be, and she has always been there to give her advice which is truly valuable..

My Nanaji has always been this strict and honest person all his life but with us, he is that teacher and friend who shares his journey through life so that we could learn from it and recites quality poetry to help us improve our taste..:-)

Our elders are one of our greatest assests and we must cherish them, give them the respect that they deserve and shower our affections on them..

i grew up in a boarding school...so didnt have much contact with my grand parents..
but whenever me and my brothe came down for vacations..i still remember my grand mother used to stay awake...for us...and always kept mango juices, which we call (aam ras) for my brother which was his favourite..
as for my grand father the very sight of us always got him emotional..well we were very young then and it didnt really affect us...
but yes i wish i could have seen more days with them:)
