The tears flowed like a raging river from my reddened eyes. I was holding Gunjan's hand tightly as the doctor wheeled her into the room. He felt her pulse and nodded at the nurse standing beside him. She immediately rushed off into the blood supply area.
'Doctor! Woh theek ho jayegi na? Batayie na? Meri Chashmish ko kuch nahi hoga na? Please kuch tho boliye!'
A nurse tried to pull me back from Gunjan but I shook her off.
'Aap kuch bolthe kyun nahi? Kya hua hai usse?? Mujhe buhot dar lag raha hai. Please kuch bolo na!??'
I hadn't realized that I was pulling on his coat collar. Hi gently pushed me away.
'Dekhiye, abhi kuch kaha nahi jaa sakta. Patient ko sir me zyaada se zyaada chot laggi hai tho humme bhi kuch nahi pata hai. Aap plz wahaan jaake behethiye. '
the nurse led me over to the waiting room.
'Sit.'
she ordered. I felt dizzy. Like the whole world was collapsing in front of my eyes. I sat.
'Doctor aap ko inform kar denge, jab unhone patient ko check karlia hai. Ok?'
I didn't reply. She looked at me strangely and then dissappeared off into another room.
I wasn't bothered about anything. My mind reflected back to my first meeting with Gunjan. She had fallen into the pool at Diya's party. I had almost lost her because of my immence stupidity... and now once again it looked like I might lose her, for the same reason. I thought about the TP. just for me, she had sung in front of the whole college. I smiled. For me. Just for me. I recalled our beautiful valentines day dance. The way she had blushed after we had finished. Her smile during our first unofficial date at the chai stall. When we had first confessed our love. The best day of our lives. The way she had hugged me so tightly. How I wished I could have her wrapped in my arms right now.
My thoughts were interrupted when I felt someone shaking me. I looked up and saw Nupur. Behind her followed Mayank, Diya, Uday, Benji and Suhaani.
'Gunjan ko kya hua Samrat! Bolo! Kya hua usse??!'
I looked at Nupur confused. I could see her lips move but I wasn't able to understand anything she was saying. all her words sounded slurred together. She shook me harder.
'Samrat!!! Main tumse kuch pooch rahi hoon!!'
mayank intercepted and tried to calm Nupur.
'Nupur, Samrat abhi bhi kaafi pareshaan lag raha hai. Aur tum tho jaanti ho na, ke Gunjan ke bina Samrat...'
He didn't complete his sentence. He exchanged a worried glance with her. Nupur nodded and stopped pushing me to say more. But Nupur was not one to give up so easily.
'suhaani, Tum tho batao na? Gunjan ko kya hua?'
She was fidgeting with her dupatta and there were tearsbrimming in her eyes. Mayank sqeezed her hand.
'Uska accident ho gayya. Ek gaadi se. Buhot chot lagga tha sir me. Ab pata nahi woh kahaan hai'
Nupur looked shocked. She hadn't known it was this serious.
'Suhaani! Tumhe pata bhi bhai ke tum kya kehe rahi ho?! Plz kaho ke tum mazaak kar rahi ho.'
Suhaani shook her head.
'Main mazaak nahi kar rahi hoon.'
There was an uneasy silence. Only the sound of my harsh breathing. Suddenly, Uday looked to Nupur.
'Hey Nupur? Yeh story thodi Devdas jaise nahi chal rahi? Uss film me Aishwariya aur Sharukh alag hote hain aur yahaan Gunjan aur Samrat alag ho rahe hain!! Kya beautiful love story hai!'
Diya came from behind and slapped Uday on the shoulder.
'Ouch Didz! Ab maine kya kiya?'
He rubbed his arm and frowned. Diya rolled her eyes.
'Devdas ek love story nahi, ek tragic story hai stupid! Nice way to give Sammy confidence!'
She glareed at him and then turned to me. Iwas still in shock mode. everything was happening too quickly for me to grasp.
'Don't worry Sammy, sab kuch theek ho jayega. Hum sab tumhaare saat hai.'
I give her a small smile. What would I do if it weren't for my friends?
Suddenly, the doctor walked out...the only problem was that he wasn't smiling.
