Perhaps it was because she was a younger reflection of his mother and secretly loved it when they ganged up against him.
..this particular thing should have been given importance from CV's side..

as Anu said, Nupur had never got attracted towards Mayank's dimple but if it was shown in a cute way, it would have been extra ordinary! ALAS,,,,

Hello Mimz,

Thanks for your comments.
I guess I got carried away with my writing so you will find some irrationality. (Dang! I should have stuck with my first draft!)

Ola Prasanthi!

I think those two are together because people want them to be together. :-)
Glad you liked the lines I made up. !!!

Sookie, I just read your analysis on Nupur and Mayur.
Wow, that was really accurate and perfect. The way you've described Nupur's persona is perfect.

It's like, Nupur is perfect with her imperfections. No person is complete without some or the other flaw. And Nupur is a perfect example to that.
Her charm is her dreamy nature. The way she looks out for fantasy everywhere.

And when two opposites clash, it really is interesting to see the way these two get along.

TBH, I never thought of Mayank and Nupur with a lot depth. They just seemed like characters, but unique. But now that you've analyzed their personality so accurately, it makes me wonder

"Did the creatives ever understand the character and its depth before imposing a track on them?"

:"Did they ever try to understand the character they've created?"

As far as Stories are concerned, the author needs to know their character well. They have to be well aware of what the character is like, and try to maintain their individuality. They have to put themselves into the character's shoes to see how the character would react in any given situation. They note down the minutest of details of their character. Had the MJHT CV's thought more about their character, or rather understood the character, then this entire character being lost thing wouldn't have occured.

But then again, the CVs wouldn't go into so much detailing. But your analysis was amazing. it was superb. Bravo for this amazing analysis.👏

Thanks for your comments.
When I was commenting on Anu's comment, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to take up a scene that one disliked (example: Nupur bringing up marriage and Mayank telling that not happening till 2016) and see how a fan/viewer would have liked to see it.
It would be good exercise I think to see if things can be dealt differently even with the tracks which are currently on.
Give it a thought!

This is it ... this is what I wanted to hope for all along. Since I identified with the alpha-male called Mayank, I took it so personally when his character lost it's edge. And that's why too I was often annoyed with Nupur in the same vein as Mayank would've been with her .... unfortunately though on screen she didn't grow in strength and character as I would've liked. Hence the divide between a has-been and never-was kept on growing until the point that I couldn't identify with either M or N. Perhaps that's why your maybes made so much sense. If MaYur wouldn't be relegated to being sidekicks who provide occasional guffaws, your "maybes" would've undoubtedly woven a seamless story!

Once again ... kudos! Job well done ...

I do not agree with the bold part...

I may not be as eloquent and cohesive in writing down as you .. yet I'll give it a shot

Sookie, remember me asking you whether this was based on MJHT or if it was your take on it... I am still confused after reading MayUr.. If it is your take then I cannot comment on it.. But if its abt ones in MJHT then here is my take

What does Mayank find in Nupur???

1)--The very first impression he has about her - is her INNOCENCE as she gets involved in the prank played by her classmates and her cousins.
Her SIMPLICITY and inncocence is what catches his attention as most of them around him were the manupilative kind...(atleast thats what he thinks)
His prejudice however takes over ( I think thats one of his flaws) when he finds her to be imitating the same people he thought she would be different from!!! He believes --ones focusing on looks rather than career are bunch of losers and Nupur just got added to the list.

YET YET...(I'll ve to borrow ur words here Sookie)

1)--She has a very strong stubborn streak and always rises up to a posed challenge. Even when she knows that her smartness is no match for the college topper, she still challenges him to a dare; a dare to beat him on his own turf. It is only then that one realizes that a challenge that could hurt her ego or a challenge to prove someone wrong were the only things that could bring her out of semi-crazy state and show her intelligence, smartness and what a hardworking individual she can be.

I think Mayank finds this quality in her intriguing (and may be some level reminds him of will power his mom possess) .
That she can be strong-willed yet have fun in life is combination he never thought would exist.

2)--Her craziness emerges from a part of the head which seems to be stuck in a cloud of fantasy and the one which rarely connects with reality.

and yet when shes completely lost in the entire fantasy land (she so wanted to be in) she tries to find her 'morena's simplicity in Mumbai (ref: before beach scene).. At deeper level he could connect to the simplicity and emotional support she wanted...

3)--She could find something to look fwrd to in the dullest of moments, she could find happiness in saddest of situation and she could mess up the most planned out situation... something which Mayank never was able to do...Her chirpiness was probably infectious to the strongest of the lot. Mayank never did that mainly due to his upbringing and 'no father figure' around to take the responsibility.
First time he really wishes he could behave 20 and not older. (ref diwali scene, Academic meet)

He surely didnt miss partying around with hundreds of ppl around ..going to pubs... but it made him 'alive' to sit with that girl on a beach NOT discussing his studies for a change ( something like Jadoo ki Jhappi effect)

4)---strength, this confidence that she has in herself which makes her stand out in a group of girls and not her beauty.. The quality no girl around him possess.. they either swoon at him or are devotees per say(please give me a right word) at his intelligence.

What Nupur finds in Mayank??

I think her reasons are more straight forward although she seems to be complicated... or may be I understand her lesser than most of you

1)-- she always dreams about her sapno ka rajkumar yet she realizes he's the person she would call first when she is in trouble...(stuck in college)
2)-- she trusts him more than she does herself (barn scene)
1)-- beneath her over confident and bright exterior lay an insecure yet smart small town girl.
and At some point she is thankful that Mayank has always been there for her when she needed someone ( beach , jungle hug, loo scene, salsa)

2)--She hates him for his curt replies yet she realizes he has always always cared for her although he acts all 'kadoos n sadu'..

3)-- not treating her as damsel in distress but giving credit to positive qualities as well...respecting her for her will power

AS for why these two can be together apart from the individual reasons.. i think at a very raw basic n conceptual level both are simple, caring towards their dear ones, sensitive. Thats where their frequency matches and they share that comfort level.

Hey LadyM!

The entire concept of them being together is hazy. Its like they were adversaries, comrades and suddenly together-together. I do not have a mind that understands this kind of (d)evolution of characters so the third part is as vague as it can get. That's why the abundance of "perhaps".

I still maintain my stance on the bold part.
I fail to see anything strong which would make them connect. Please note, this is fully derived from my understanding of Mayank and not of Nupur. I understand some what like Mayank in the way behaves. So if I have to connect with a person like Nupur, then there has to be something that I and the other person share to the T. I am looking for a commonality which brings them down to their most vulnerable/strongest self and that is when...bang! It is that connection I am looking for. (Probably this is all me!)
Currently they being on the opposite side of the spectrum seemed to be attraction factor.
I am finding it very hard to explain :-(

I do not agree to innocence. She is more naive. She does not understand the culture and that does not make her innocent. But she is quick to learn. She also figures out Sheena's true intent and sees that some of her moves are calculated to hurt Gunjan.

Mayank's Prejudice - Absolutely right.

YET YET...(I'll ve to borrow ur words here Sookie)

I agree. Though looking for something un-complex and clean is what attracted to him, but I have not seen that in his behavior. Probably, this backs up his prejudice. He thinks his peers are superficial.

3)--She could find something to look fwrd to in the dullest of moments, she could find happiness in saddest of situation and she could mess up the most planned out situation... something which Mayank never was able to do...Her chirpiness was probably infectious to the strongest of the lot. I completely agree. I must say now I have to see this episode!

4)---strength, this confidence that she has in herself which makes her stand out in a group of girls and not her beauty.. The quality no girl around him possess.. they either swoon at him or are devotees per say(please give me a right word) at his intelligence.

I disagree for the bold part. Reason: CJ. Think about it. Why not CJ?

I agree. Very much agree.

2)--She hates him for his curt replies yet she realizes he has always always cared for her although he acts all 'kadoos n sadu'..

I agree.

3)-- not treating her as damsel in distress but giving credit to positive qualities as well...respecting her for her will power

I agree.

I dis-agree. How is this different from Gunjan? But with all other characteristics that Nupur has, this is added as a bonus point and not as an exclusive one.

Dear Ananya,

Writing this series was just for fun and some basic research (I don't know how many actually cared for that, but well...). I have learned many things and has been shown with different points of view with the above post. So I thank you for that.

My apologies if I come as rude and overbearing. If I disagree to something, I do not sugar coat it. :-)
Thanks again for your input!

Why not CJ?? Cuz I think she was too much like him...practically a female version of Mayank😆😆...I think he considered her to be as good as being a guy friend😆😆....When he thought of girls, he generalized with the kind he saw around him at college nearly all the time....CJ was his study partner...he respected her intelligence...but obviously attraction was not there....I don't think he sees CJ as a GIRL at all😆😆
