Hey Sidra...
Really nice thought ..that if u try to find a common ground with ur so called opponent u may be able to better understand him and deal with him, even though u don't agree with him.In my opinion, this can be applied better if you are dealing with people on a one on one basis but not in a group.
I think, by the way group thinking or herd thinking goes...this doesn't apply there.I feel this way coz in my opinion it requires a genuine group effort by everyone (apart from individual effort of course)because the degree to which each person tries to understand and accomodate varies ...so even though some people try to change themselves...the others from their own group or opposing group may not allow them to...Sometimes, ur personal opinion about the other person/group is impartial and right but when u r in a group ur difference in opinion is sometimes taken otherwise and/or the other members directly or indirectly influence you in forming ur opinion...so I guess u finally end up doing what other people think u should do.To avoid this in my view needs a much greater degree of maturity and exercise of freedom and responsibility taken up by each n every member.
No offence intended to anyone.I wouldn't quite agree that it would be a perfect solution to all the problems. It doesn't mean we shouldn't try to sort out our differences though lol. Also I am not referring to MJHT forum per se neither do I have a sadistic POV but its my general feeling about your idea. What say?
