I like it when shows give all their characters a chance to shine. For me the best serials are always about more than just their lead jodi. So I was happy to note the following bits in the past eps, which felt real and relatable:
  • Durga's mom refusing chachu to go pick up Durga from the camp just because the narrow-minded gaonwaale were insisting on it - and best of all turning tables on them by calling out the most vocal of the moral police for holding double standards about their own kids kartootein. I always like it when the show gives Annapurna these moments. Like when she was the first to accept Durga's daud dream and tried to make Yashpal see sense. And when she broken down her years of silence and the divider wall in one fell swoop. And when she took down her pallu as though throwing the gauntlet to god. The chilli powder scene was pretty rad too. She's got a quiet strength about her
  • Also love it when Durga's dadi gets good scenes. Her understanding with Amrita especially is just understated and nicely done. She more than anyone else in the house understands what it is like to raise a child without his father or to spend so many years lonely without your love/husband. The comic scene with her aghast about the western clothes was pretty fun too. She knows how to play off Shiela - case in point, the scene where she bribed her into silence with gold ornaments
  • Never thought I'd say this but Shilpa's hot tears of anger and fear for her mother Shiela's state of paralysis actually moved me for a minute, despite her prior actions. In that one moment she was just a kid who was scared about her mother and also resentful of how little the rest of the house respects her mother (not without good reason I might add but she can't be objective about that). It was the guilty conscience of all the collective kaands she'd done with her mother that made her accuse Yashpal - after all when they can stoop down to so many low tricks to harm his family, she'd naturally assume he can too..
  • Aarti - again, who knew. But for all of 5 seconds when SP was hugging her from the back as a friend to thank her for turning on the tubelight of love in his head she was just a girl whose castles in the air and come crashing down on her head. (and then I remembered Durga's drug framing and Rana's alcoholism issues and stamped down on my sympathy hard :P)
  • Now I only hope Coach Rana gets some interesting scenes. And Amrita. And Chachu. Haven't seen a good one of Yashpal's in a while either. I did enjoy his offended and aghast comic monologues about Coach Rana's teaching tactics lol. Also I'm kinda missing the finger snapping, poker-faced, sarcastic Samrat. There was a fun wildcard element to him. That scene where he was reluctantly saving SP in the chemical lab kinda had me laughing (cause yeah what an idiotic stunt that was).
