I mean no offence with this post, but...So, I live in the uk, where a lot of people have a daily job to get by with. I don't understand the mentality of working portrayed by MAM and the people of India. I'll explain...

1) chaprasi is embarrassing? We have cleaners here too, why is it seen as so lowly...work is work, it's more embarrassing if you can't support your family.
2) how are people just turning up to work late (like shivam), do they not get into trouble for poor punctuality.
3) how can they just take time off from work? Like Nandu, he's not at work while he is at the garage playing lucky...how has he not been sacked from his job?
4) Why is it seen as bad if girls work? Why is it only up to a man to work? There's no shame in getting work and providing for a family.

Can someone please explain this. I've had a job since I turned 16. It's nice to be able to have your own money. Or is what they show in these drama serials a gross exaggeration of what life is like in India?

the serial lives in its own makebelive world. i am an indian ,live in india worked more than 27yrs. nowhere was i excused for coming late.iam a single mother who brought up both my daughters with the idea that if they want anything which i cant afford to give they should work earn and buy it.they used to do parttime jobs and pay for their fees picnics etc.it is true of many middle class indians.the days when one member of the family earned and the rest sat and ate is over. Now girls plan their career right from when they are in 10th std and go all out to achieve it.they dont hang around home to get married off.i used to get frustrated seeing the serial and how the ladies are treated.but now i see the serial as a fiction of the writers warped mind we dont have many ranis or riyas who hang around the sasural like brainless idiots.hope you have patience to read this and get better idea of indian women.

Thanks for that clarification. I've always wondered what it was like. Say for example, in shanti Saran...they are hardly affluent people. Yet they have Ashanti (excused because she is now old), kusiya, preeti, Nimmi and now riya who do not work. So 5 people are now supported by 2 people bringing in an income. I understand if they were rich, they wouldn't need to work, but how does this work??

It's not only seen in MAM, but plenty of other Indian serials. Those women who had a career were depicted as being rubbish in running the household. I've done both for a large part of my life, as I'm sure you have too by what you've said.

How therefore, in serials that are supposed to be aimed towards the youth can they depict such backwards thinking about girls working?

And if we remove the girls from the equation, why is the punctuality and turning up for work so lax. Ragwa never refuses work, even if his family are having a crisis. Shivam turns up to work late just because his mum says so...and Riya used to do the same. Nandu is off being greasy lucky and his employer hasn't sacked him?

If you dont live in India, then please remember.

All daily soaps are far away from reality most of the times. Be it this one or any other.

Work time is strictly adhered to, even if Indians are famous for being late. Some companies even deduct salaries for more then 3-4 late marks. And yes, missing work for personal reasons is not allowed, atleast in corporate places. Maybe some government organizations it is allowed. I think Nandu is a peon in some government organizations.

Regarding work being less in standard, depends on individuals, though most dont see any work beneath them. unfortunately some do.

I guess these serials really do portray the Indian working class in a bad way. It gives those of us who don't live there a bad idea about what actually goes on there.

lol i've been working since i was 14 and if lateness occurred there would be a deduction in my salary...idk what special treatment is nandu getting that he goes and stays and then changes into lucky...moreover i'm just wondering why is shivam still considering that he can take continue to take on the responsibility of his sisters when they can go out & earn themselves...

i think it's preeti's way of taunting others to make sure she gets their attention as she thinks nobody cares for her...man why can't she find a job on her own...she can go online and hunt for jobs thru nimmi's computer...nimmi can start her own fashion designing business at home like set up a website where ppl can place their orders if ashantia is having problems...

My thought exactly. You shouldn't be expecting one or two people to support a whole household. This is why I got so confused and frustrated watching MAM. Girls are seen to be leeching off the earning members when there is no reason for why they can't work. This whole mentality of keeping girls at home is ridiculous. In Sarla's household, I'm frankly amazed that they even eat. I know shanti supports them financially, but seriously, how do they live? I'm guessing Ashok pulls minimum wage and Amit is a waste of space. Where is any of their money coming from?

in one of the episodes they said sonal does tuition classes but i think she's earning the money for her education whereas amit, sarla, rani, and now pari are sitting idle and ashok earns some salary as a thela master...so yeah the question remains a mystery...nirmala is giving them some money and i wouldnt be surprised if nirmalu actually takes away the shelter from sarla lol😆 but then sarla would start her dukhi bari kahani...moreover why cant nandu find another job besides being a peon? like another part time job since he has free time as being a lucky the garage wala...i know ppl who have/had more than 1 job...

I might have missed something, but how has nirmala got so much money? She used to turn up at the thela in worn out thin saris.

I'm surprised Sarla's household manage to pay for food at all. Surely if shanti had enough money to feed and give expenses for both households, they would have been rich by now...

the mysteries in the serial can be solved only by the writers but i wonder whether they remember about showing sarla being poor and also staying in quaters alloted to her brother.in todays episode pari and amit were fighting for share in the house which actually is goverment quaters
