Hey

Need help with 2 questions I can't seem to be able to do.

1. Factorise:

2x squared - 7x - 9

2. Hence or othervise, solve the equation.

2 (y-2)squared - 7 (y-2) - 9 = 0

I wrote squared because I couldn't express it using a key on the keyboard.

here, i hope this helps:

1. Factorise:

2x squared - 7x – 9

2x squared – 9x + 2x – 9

x(2x-9) + (2x-9)

(2x-9)(x+1)

2. Hence or othervise, solve the equation.

2 (y-2)squared - 7 (y-2) - 9 = 0

so, it would be
[2(y-2) – 9] [y-2+1]

for the second part i think..
2(y-2)sqrd - 7(y-2) - 9 = 0
say x=y-2
2x sqrd - 7x - 9 = 0
(2x-9)(x+1)=0
2x-9=0 or x+1=0
x=9/2 or x=-1
replacing x=y-2
y-2=9/2 or y-2=-1
y=13/2 or y=1

thats exactly the kinda work we're duin at the moment and im a lil stuk as well, but im slowly slowly getting half way there..lol. if i figure it out ill try to help u, if any1 can help us both plz do, i dont want the answers to qustions i need to no how to do it, plz help me too, thnx

use this website it has an atomatic caluclator to solve these sorts of problems it shows all the work with explanation
